Here is how you can become Godzilla in Fortnite!

Godzilla officially arrives in Fortnite on Jan. 17 after much anticipation. Once the update goes live, players can begin unlocking the Godzilla Fortnite Battle Pass skin and cosmetics. However, that's not all, as Godzilla will also become a playable character in Fortnite matches. This article outlines how you can become the giant reptile in Fortnite and what to expect.

How do I become Godzilla in Fortnite?

Epic Games recently published a blog post regarding how becoming Godzilla will work in the update. There will be a 20% chance of a portal appearing in a given match. If or when that happens, you must rush to that portal and be the first player to run through it. That player will become Godzilla and utilize various attacks, including a Roar, which reveals nearby player locations, a Stomp, and the Heat Ray.

Unfortunately, this event will not occur in every match, as there is a 20% chance that the Godzilla portal will spawn. There will be some luck involved regarding whether the Godzilla portal will appear, and it's up to you to become the Kaiju.

What happens to everyone else in the lobby?

For the other players who don't become Godzilla in the Fortnite match, it's your responsibility to take the giant reptile down. All weapons will work, but the Rail Gun might be your best option. The Godzilla blog post detailed that the Kaiju will have weak spots crucial to taking him down.

Godzilla Fragments will periodically fall off him, giving you 40 health and three dash charges when consumed. It's unclear how much health the character will have for those who become Godzilla, but there is a legitimate reward for those who inflict the most damage.

If you are the player who damages Godzilla the most, you will receive the Godzilla Medallion and the new Exotic Burst Quad Launcher. The Medallion grants three dashes that recharge over time, like the Cerberus Medallion from Chapter 5 Season 2.

The Godzilla update should go live on Jan. 16 at around 9 a.m. ET, but the timing is unclear. We will provide further updates when more information comes to light.
