The experts will say it limits your vision, but if you come from another game or just want to stop moving the mouse to the edges to adjust your camera, read on for our guide.
Dota 2 is a complicated game, and it's full of different mechanics that you can only learn by constantly playing. However, there are ways to make this learning curve an easier experience. Some players may feel that Valve's game lacks certain default features found in other multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBAs). One of them is the camera lock, which is a feature you can find in Dota 2 as well.
Even if you specify that you come from League of Legends, the welcome settings may not have this feature enabled. Additionally, there's not a "camera lock" option anywhere in the settings menu. But don't let that stop you.

Steps to follow to lock your camera in Dota 2
As previously mentioned, this feature is not natively available inside of the game. However, you can set it by changing the way your "Select Hero" hotkey works. In order to do this, follow these steps:
- Open your game settings by clicking the gear icon on the top-left side of the screen.
- On the "Hotkeys" section, pick your favorite for "Select Hero." F1 is the default.
- Then, click "Options" and remove the "Edge Pan" option under the camera section. Also, tick the "Hold Select Hero to Follow" option.
By doing this, the camera will lock and follow you every time you hold F1 or the "Select Hero" key for every Dota 2 game you play. It also won't move even if you hit the edge of the screen with your mouse.
There's a second method that will be more complicated to set. However, this next option will make the camera follow even if you are not holding a key. First, we need to enable the game's console tool.
- Go to Dota 2 properties.
- Set a new "Launch Option" under the "General" submenu. There, just type "-console" without quotes.
- Now, open the game and make sure you have a hotkey for "Console" on the interface section.
- Finally, every time you start a new game, open the console with your set hotkey and lock your camera in Dota 2 by entering the following code into the console:
- bind p "toggle dota_camera_lock"
- You can change "p" for any key you want. In this case, close the console and press "p" to lock. The same key will work to unlock the camera.
We recommend you lock your camera in Dota 2 just to start your jouney, but it's better to also get used to moving it on your own. Learn more with our guides at esports.gg!
