A new adventure begins in Destiny 2!
Goodbye Light and Darkness: hello Fate Saga! Bungie has officially announced the next chapter in Destiny 2’s multi-year story arc — The Fate Saga — which commences with its Nine-themed expansion, The Edge of Fate.
In The Edge of Fate, Guardians will travel to new destination Kepler to explore this new "Metroidvania-esque" planet brimming with mysterious Dark Matter energy. There, they'll hunt down the source of their invitation that came from one of the esteemed members of the Nine.
But that’s just barely scratching the surface of what’s coming to Destiny 2 in 2025 and beyond. Bungie has name-dropped four new paid expansions and two free Major Updates that are launching in the Year of Prophecy.
Here's everything you need to know about the entire Destiny 2 Fata Saga roadmap and what players should expect in each of these upcoming updates.
All Destiny 2 Fate Saga expansions
Bungie has confirmed four expansion packs for Destiny 2’s Fate Saga. These are:
- The Edge of Fate (July 2025 to December 2025)
- Renegades (December 2025 to TBC 2026)
- Shattered Cycle (TBC 2026)
- The Alchemist (TBC 2026)
The Edge of Fate (July 2025)
The Edge of Fate is the first paid expansion of the Fate Saga that takes the fight to one of the Nine’s planets, Kepler. Aside from adding new story beats, a raid, a Heavy Metal PvP mode (available now!), weapons, and gear, it introduces new Dark Matter abilities, an Armor 3.0 rework, and a new activity screen among other changes and improvements to the core Destiny 2 experience.
The Edge of Fate will be launching on July 15, 2025. Players can learn more about this upcoming update in our Edge of Fate reveal article, and check out our pre-order guide to know which edition to buy.

Renegades (December 2025)
This is the fun part — Renegades is the first-ever Destiny 2 pop-culture expansion collab of sorts, inspired by the storytelling in Star Wars. It takes place in a "lawless frontier" somewhere in Sol. The thirty-second teaser trailer also shows glimpses of Guardians wielding a lightsaber and DL-44 blaster pistol.
Although Bungie describes Renegades as a “definitive Destiny expansion” that takes place in the Destiny universe, it’s a direct collab with Lucasfilm. Hence, players should expect a lot of legally approved Star Wars references in this upcoming space western Destiny expansion.
Renegades has a tentative release date of Dec. 6, 2025. Like The Edge of Fate, it will add new stories, locations, missions, weapons, gear, and a dungeon.
Shattered Cycle (TBC 2026)
Shattered Cycle is the third expansion in Destiny 2’s Fate Saga. It’s scheduled to be released in the Summer of 2026, though we don’t have a concrete release date as of this writing. However, given Bungie’s track record, players could expect this to drop somewhere between May to July.
Bungie hasn’t revealed much about this upcoming update except its name, so there’s not much to go on at the moment. That said, Shattered Cycle could be about humanity breaking down the Nine’s grasp on the universe, as it’s part of the Fate saga after all. And if there’s one thing Guardians are good at, it’s defying their fate!
The Alchemist (TBC 2026)
The Alchemist shouldn’t be mistaken for Paulo Coelho’s 1988 coming-of-age novel, The Alchemist. However, given the novel’s themes of self-discovery and finding one’s destiny, a comparison wouldn’t be too far-fetched.
Given that it’s targeting the holiday release window like Renegades, it could be another pop-culture-inspired expansion. Thematically, it should be vastly different from Shattered Cycle.
All Destiny 2 Fate Saga major updates
In between The Edge of Fate and Renegades, both of which are Rise of Iron-sized expansions, Bungie will drop two major updates in the Year of Prophecy — Ash & Iron and Shadow & Order. These will be free, permanent updates that add new and reprised activities, events, modifiers, challenges, and gear, and make sandbox changes.
Ash & Iron releases Sep. 9 and will see guardians return to the Plaguelands last seen in Rise of Iron, while Shadow & Order will arrive midway through Renegades — likely around March. Both Ash & Iron and Shadow & Order will be "moderately sized" and similar to 2024’s well-received Into the Light update.
