The Deadlock playtest isn’t open to everyone, but if you know the right people, you too can get an invite.

Deadlock is Valve's latest hero shooter, and it was kept under wraps until very recently. The developers finally decided to lift restrictions regarding the game's existence, allowing anyone with access to create content and speak on it publicly. So, you probably want to know how you can get invited to the Deadlock playtest.

Is that the truth? If so, we've got you covered on how you can get your invite and try out the newest shooter from the creators of Half-Life, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike.

How you can get an invite into the Deadlock playtest

Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as signing up and getting selected for an invite to the Deadlock playtest. Only a handful of individuals were first allowed into the game. That has increased greatly over time, as the number of people selected by Valve also went up.

There is still a bit of secrecy involved, however. If Valve has finished dishing out invitations, the only way you can get in is by knowing someone. If a player is in the Deadlock playtest, and they happen to be your friend, you can get an invite from them, through Steam directly.

It might not hurt to see who is playing it on stream or on your Steam friends list. You can even check out social media to see if access is being given away by anyone. All you need to know is that someone who is in the playtest is also your ticket into it.

There is a section on the main page of the game. If you are the inviter, you can click the Invite Your Friends button. Your list of friends on Steam will appear, separated by who is and isn't in. Just click a friend and the invite is sent their way.

When does the playtest end?

If you haven't gotten in yet, there is still probably plenty of time. The game explicitly states it is in an early development build. And again, it was just recently revealed to exist at all.

There is no indication that a full release date or open playtest is coming anytime soon. So, you've got a chance to make a friend and get yourself invited to the Deadlock playtest as long as it is active.
