There are two stages to the ESL Pro League Season 16 - the group stage and the playoffs. The group stage will see the teams play each other in a round-robin format. Each team wil play the other five teams in the group once in the group stage.

All matches are best-of-three series and each group takes place over a period of five days. The best team in the group stage advances directly to the quarterfinals. The next two teams move ahead to the round of 12. There is a clear and distinct advantage for any team that tops the group stage.

The playoffs feature best of three series throughout. As one of the most prestigious tournaments in the CS: GO circuit, ESL Pro League prides itself on best-of-three series all across the event. Unlike the group stage, however, the playoffs are all single-elimination matches, The Grand final is a best-of-five affair. The playoffs kick off on September 27 and will continue till October 2.
