Mods are starting to pop up in the Crimson Desert community, but how do you download them on PC?

Whenever a new single-player game is released for PC, one of the first questions the community has surrounds the use of mods. Mods are a way for players to totally customize their copy of a game, as they’re modifications that can change gameplay, quality-of-life features, or the core game itself. If you’re playing Crimson Desert, then you’ve likely wished for mods to do a variety of different things, from changing combat to eliminating the stamina meter to fixing the controls.

Well, while new mods are rolling out every day in the Crimson Desert community, you first need to know how to download them on your PC.

How to download mods for Crimson Desert

Just like most other single-player games on PC, mods for Crimson Desert are primarily found on the Nexus Mods website. Currently, there are just under 100 mods in the game’s section on the site, but more are being added every day, so you can expect that number to grow exponentially in the coming weeks and months.

On Nexus Mods, you can browse the Crimson Desert section until you see a mod you want to download. There are filters on the right side of the page that allow you to search by “most downloaded” or date, if you want to get specific with which mods you see first.

When you find a mod you want to download, follow these steps to install it on your PC:

  • Click on the mod’s image or name to see its full description, images, and more
  • In the mod’s description, you’ll often see specific instructions for how the mod creator recommends downloading the mod
  • Once you’ve read the mod’s description, you can go to the “Files” tab on the mod’s page to download the individual mod files
  • Look under the “Main Files” section to see the primary file you need to download
  • Click the orange “Manual Download” button to start the file download (you’ll also need to be logged in to a Nexus Mods account before downloading anything)
  • Once the file is downloaded, follow the mod’s instructions for how to install the mod on your PC
  • Most of the time, this involves extracting the mod files and copying them into your Crimson Desert game directory folder, which is located on the drive where you originally installed the game
  • For most players, this is the file location for your game directory folder: Windows (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Crimson Desert > bin64

Sometimes, mods will also allow you to install them directly into the Nexus Mod Manager, Vortex. However, not all mods allow this, so it’s often easier to manually install the mods on your PC.

As long as you follow the mod’s instructions on how to install them, you should have no trouble getting them up and running in your version of Crimson Desert.
