The best attachments for the MP5 in the Modern Warfare 2 beta

The MP5 is one of the strongest guns in the Modern Warfare 2 beta

The MP5 is back for Modern Warfare 2. It is a series regular and once again is looking like one of the best SMG weapons in the game. Infinity Ward renamed the MP5 as the Lachmann Sub but still does the same job as it has done prior.

How to unlock the MP5

The new gunsmith introduced for Modern Warfare 2 changed the way that guns are unlocked. In order to be able to use the MP5, you have to go through a bit of a convoluted process. Each gun is separated into different receivers, meaning that players have the freedom to build their weapons in many different ways.

The new gunsmith works in a tree system, with guns and receivers leading into each other.

The MP5 starts life as the Lachmann-762 Battle Rifle, this is the starting point. Levelling up this gun to level 13 will unlock the Lachmann-556 variant - an Assault Rifle version of the gun.

You then need to level that receiver up to level 12, when you have done that, you will finally have access to the Lachmann Sub receiver. That is the MP5. The biggest benefit of unlocking guns this way is that all attachments unlocked for previous weapons in the tree will already be unlocked from level one.

Best MP5 loadout

With attachments available from the Lachmann-556 and Lachmann-762 receivers, there are plenty of choices for the MP5. What you decide to put on your gun will depend on what kind of playstyle you are trying to go for.

As with many SMGs, the weapon favours the run-and-gun playstyle with high speeds and top-frags the aim of the game if you run it. The MP5 is no different.

The attachments

  • FTAC M-SUB 12" Barrel
  • Lockshot KT85 Muzzle
  • Lockgrip Precision-40 Underbarrel
  • LM Cronus Rear Grip
  • No Stock
  • Lach-9mm Parabellum Receiver

This set of attachments will give you the best chance of being able to sprint through your enemies and rack up kills. The Lockgrip underbarrel and Lockshot muzzle make the weapon a terrifying prospect when using hipfire. It plays quite similar to the Warzone PPSh-41.

There are a couple of changes you can make to adjust the weapon for your individual playstyle. If you struggle to see enemies using the iron sights, then change the stock for the Cronen Mini Red Dot sight.

The Modern Warfare 2 MP5 does benefit from having the extra speed of the No Stock attachment. If you want to slow things down even further, you can add the 50-Round Magazine instead of the rear grip.

Be sure to couple the MP5 with the Dead Silence field upgrade. Being able to keep your footsteps silent, even for a short time, is a huge advantage in the Modern Warfare 2 beta. Dead Silence also helps settle your mind, knowing that someone sat in a corner cannot hear you coming.

If using the Overkill perk, pairing the gun with a Assault Rifle is the way forward. The FSS Hurricane variant of the M4 is the way to go.
