Could this be the final hurrah for Black Ops 6?
Activision has fully revealed the content drop for Season 5 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone. The new season is arriving on Aug. 7, 2025, which is one week before the worldwide reveal of Black Ops 7. With the hype train of the newest game in the franchise set to start heating up right after the launch of Season 5, many fans are wondering if this will be the last major update in the life cycle of BO6.
While Activision hasn't released any official news on that front, we can speculate based on trends with previous games and some leaks within the community.
Could Season 5 be the last update in the Black Ops 6 era?
First and foremost, there's no indication that Season 5 will be the final update in BO6. In fact, it's already confirmed that there will be a Season 5 Reloaded update, which will introduce new significant content into multiplayer and Warzone. This was made official through the Season 5 content roadmap that was released on July 29.
As you can see from the roadmap, some of the content won't be released at the start of Season 5. Instead, it will be released "in-season," which almost always means the content will come with the Reloaded update. The Reloaded updates arrive during the halfway point between the current season and the next one.
What isn't confirmed, though, is whether there will even be a next season in BO6. Season 6's release window would come at a strange time in the annual Call of Duty cycle.

Black Ops 7 might mean there's no Season 6 update
Traditionally, Call of Duty seasons have a lifespan of around two and a half months. Season 4 in BO6 was released on May 29, which means it will last around nine weeks. We've seen other seasons last for eight weeks, while others took over ten weeks to arrive.
If we assume that a potential Season 6 update wouldn't be released for two and a half months after Season 5 launches, that puts its release window at around mid-late October. According to leaks, Black Ops 7 is slated to launch in mid-November, which is extremely close to that potential Season 6 release window.

In the past, Activision has never put out a new season with only a few weeks to go before the new game's release date. We've seen final seasons arrive a month before the new game, though, so if Season 5 only lasts for around seven to eight weeks, then we would likely see a Season 6 update. However, if Season 5 lasts until mid-October, it's difficult to see Activision devoting resources to a game that will be close to obsolete in a few weeks by the time a new season would arrive.
We also have to account for the COD Next event and the Black Ops 7 multiplayer beta. Those two events never have a major update in the current game near when they take place, as Activision wants to ensure all player attention is on the new game. Currently, leaks indicate that COD Next and the BO7 beta are starting in late September and likely lasting until the first or second week in October.
So, if Season 6 does happen, it would have to be released sometime before those events or a week or two after they end. If Season 6 is released before late September, it would mean Season 5 has an extremely short lifespan compared to other seasons in BO6. As we said before, though, it's also hard to see Activision releasing a new season so close to a new game's launch. Both of these timelines put serious doubt that Season 6 is happening at all.
Of course, we don't know for sure, so we'll have to keep our ears to the ground and see what Activision has in store over the next couple of months.
