How to use Melee in Black Ops 6

One of the simplest, yet most confusing mechanics in BO6

Like every other game in Call of Duty history, Black Ops 6 allows you to equip a melee weapon in addition to the regular guns and other weapons that are available via your loadout. However, Black Ops 6 multiplayer changed up the mechanic, giving players the ability to automatically have a melee weapon on every class, even if they're using two other guns.

While this is a great addition to multiplayer, it has also made the melee mechanic slightly confusing. You now have to push a specific button to equip your melee weapon, which throws some players off who need to complete certain challenges in multiplayer.

If you need to equip your melee weapon in BO6 but the game isn't offering the explanation you need to do so, keep reading the guide below.

There is no obvious way to equip your melee weapon in BO6 if you just try to normally use all your other loadout options. You can't easily swap to it by pressing Triangle/Y like you would with your primary and secondary weapons.

Fortunately, the real process of bringing out your melee weapon isn't too difficult. Here's how to do it:

  • To equip your melee weapon, hold the "Melee" button instead of simply pressing it
  • On Xbox and PlayStation, this is Circle/B by default on many of the controller layouts. However, if you're using an alternate layout, your swap button might be different. You can check the controller settings to see exactly what your weapon swap button is.
  • On PC, the default swap keybind is V. However, if you've changed that to something else, you'll have to press that specific keybind to bring out the melee weapon
  • Make sure you hold your melee button instead of just pressing it.
  • When the melee weapon is out, you can press it to actually melee other players.
  • To put your melee weapon away, hold the melee button again. Whatever your last equipped weapon was before swapping will then be back in your hands.

As long as you know what your melee button is and that you need to hold it, you're all set. Using the melee weapon once it's equipped is the easy part, as all you need to do is press the melee button or even the "fire" button to use it. This works with the default knife and any other additional melee weapons you might be using on a loadout in Black Ops 6.

Now you'll be able to complete any challenge that calls for melee kills in multiplayer. It's worth noting this works the same in Zombies, so if you need to melee some undead monsters, follow the same process.
