To progress on either map, you absolutely need Essence, as its primary role is to unlock new areas and operate objective-related devices. This guide explains how to get Essence in Black Ops 6 and what it can be spent on.

What is Essence in CoD Black Ops 6?

On the one hand, it’s an in-game currency that has quite a few practical uses — specifically for progressing in rounds of the Zombies mode. On the other hand, Black Ops 6 Essence is exactly what it sounds like — it's the essence of zombies.

How to Get Essence in Black Ops 6 Zombies

You need to kill zombies to get Essence in Black Ops 6. Simple as it is, this method is the only way to obtain this currency. Enjoy the missions and help teammates so your Essence account will be filled in no time.

While shooting bullets at monsters is a pretty effective way to accumulate Essence, you may get even more of it with Dark Aether Essence. These are special vials that randomly drop from more difficult zombies.

Using Essence in Black Ops 6 Zombies

In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies, Essence has two main purposes.

  • To progress through the Zombies rounds

Essence unlocks doors and removes objectives to give access to new areas. It’s necessary to summon a Tactical Raft and explore the locations via the water. Also, Essence activates objective-related devices such as electricity in some areas.

Teammates can split their Essence cost of unlocking doors as well. This option is present in Black Ops 6 for the first time in the series.

  • To power up your weapon and abilities

This also helps you progress in the CoD Zombies mode, as you need upgrades to feel comfortable in fights against stronger monsters in later rounds. However, this approach is different than just unlocking doors.

You spend Essense on perks and weapon upgrades from special machines, get additional ammo, improve their armor, and even buy new weapons.

It is important to use your strategic thinking to decide what to buy with the limited amount of Essence in the game. Some paths on the game maps may be cheaper but more dangerous. Spending Essence on weapons should not drain your account and prevent you from progressing through the rounds. This makes Essence an interesting layer of difficulty in Call of Duty Zombies.
