Burning the Brambles is your first major hurdle in Eora.
Within the first hour of Avowed, you'll venture into Fort Northreach and come across a dilemma during the On Strange Shores quest. To progress further in your journey, you need to burn some brambles that are blocking the path forward. However, at this point in Avowed, you have no way to burn brambles or perform any kind of spellcasting to get by them.
So, how do you burn the brambles and continue with the On Strange Shores quest? Keep reading the guide below to find out.

How to burn the Brambles in Avowed
As you'll see by approaching the brambles in the doorway during On Strange Shores, you can only get rid of them with fire damage. While you will be able to burn brambles more easily later on in Avowed, right now, you only have one option. That option is to shoot the Magran's Fury plant that's perched above the brambles. By shooting the plant, it will cause fire damage to leak down onto the brambles, clearing the way for you and Garryck.

Unfortunately, your starting weapon in Avowed, regardless of what Background you chose, is a melee weapon, so you can't shoot the plant. Luckily, there is a bow lying nearby that's in the perfect spot for you to easily shoot the brambles. Read the steps below to find the bow and burn the brambles:
- From the brambles, go into the room to your left. You can ignore the stranger in the cell for now or talk to her, it won't affect anything with the brambles.
- In the room, go into the left corner and climb on top of the boxes until you reach a wooden platform.
- Head to the left on the platform and you'll eventually find yourself on another platform with a dead body that overlooks the brambles.
- Pick up the Common Bow that's lying on the body and aim at the Magran's Fury plant that's right above the brambles.
- Shoot the Magran's Fury and the brambles will burn away, allowing you to freely go forward in On Strange Shores.

Later on in Avowed, you can use spellcasting and companions to burn brambles as well as deal with other obstacles in your way. However, a bow will usually work for most situations, as plants like Magran's Fury are often by these obstacles to give you an easy way of clearing them.
With the brambles cleared, you can go speak to the stranger in the cell if you haven't already. I highly recommend doing so, as the stranger can help you through the next phase of your journey in Avowed. Either way, though, head on through the cleared brambles to continue with On Strange Shores.
