E-Win Flash XL Gaming Chair Review

Never let anyone tell you size doesn’t matter.

Finding the right gaming chair, especially one that will last more than a few months before falling apart, is becoming increasingly difficult these days. Either the chairs are vastly out of your budget, thank you Herman Miller, or they’re made of cheap materials that are uncomfortable to sit on, or functionally collapse after some real use. However, if you’re looking for a relatively affordable gaming chair that feels premium and can support a variety of weights and sizes, you need to look at the E-Win Flash XL.

E-Win has become a household name in the gaming chair community. They have a plethora of different models that come in all sorts of sizes, colors, and styles. One of its top-of-the-line products is the Flash XL, which, as the name implies, offers plenty of room for you to spread out and not feel cramped when you’re sitting at a desk.

The Flash XL comes with a plethora of fantastic features that make it one of the best gaming chairs on the market, especially for folks who need the extra weight capacity of the chair. It also starts at $499 and goes up to just under $600 for the models with a unique color scheme or different materials. However, there are some flaws with the Flash XL that you’ll need to be aware of before making a purchase. You can see all of our thoughts on the E-Win Flash XL below.

E-Win Flash XL: Packed with features

One of the first aspects of the Flash XL that immediately stands out is just how many features it comes with out of the box, which is fairly standard practice for all E-Win chairs.

As is standard for any office or gaming chair, the Flash XL’s height can be adjusted using a lever located beneath the seat, but there’s another lever on the opposite side of the seat base that’s used to adjust the seat cushion’s height as well. I haven’t found myself using the cushion adjuster too often, but it is nice to use in conjunction with some of the features of the chair.

Most notably, the Flash XL can recline to be nearly parallel with the ground. While it can’t go completely horizontal, there’s more than enough of a recline to take a comfortable nap or look directly up at your ceiling.

One issue I’ve had with the recline feature of the Flash XL, though, is that the recline isn’t always automatic. If I use the recliner, which is located on the top right side of the seat cushion, I often have to physically move the chair in the direction I want to go. This isn’t a huge deal, as it can lead to getting the recline just where I want it, but other times I simply want to recline back, and the chair doesn’t perform that action for me.

On the opposite side of the recliner, there’s the lumbar adjuster. You can adjust the chair’s built-in lumbar support system to go up and down. The lumbar support is located in the middle of the chair back, and once you set the support where you want, you generally don’t have to adjust it again.

Of course, you might not even need the lumbar support system if you use the included lumbar pillow that comes with the Flash XL. The lumbar pillow is a decently soft, curved cushion that can be placed right at the base of the chair. I found the pillow to be more effective than the lumbar support, but your experience will vary depending on how you sit in the Flash XL.

A major problem with the lumbar pillow is that it’s something you can’t attach to the chair itself. There’s no strap or magnet to keep the cushion in place, so when you get up from the chair, the cushion often falls over, and I have to readjust it every time I sit back down. This is a major downside to the Flash XL, and while you could purchase some sort of strap system, I really feel this should be included with the lumbar pillow.

That said, the Flash XL does come with a magnetic headrest that can be adjusted to a decent distance from the top of the chair to the upper middle part. The magnet works great, and the headrest has yet to fall from its place unless I move it too low. My headrest is made of a soft material, but your chair could feature a leather headrest depending on what version of the Flash XL you purchase.

Finally, the Flash XL comes with completely adjustable armrests that allow you to fully control where your arms sit. You can adjust the height, direction, and length at which the armrests sit. Once you’ve locked in what you want, the armrests will not move after the fact, which is something other gaming chairs certainly struggle with. The only downside to the armrests is that the direction adjustment from left to right is fixed between three directions, so you don’t have free choice in where they’re facing.

E-Win Flash XL: Comfort in all the right places

Just because a gaming chair comes loaded with features, doesn’t mean it’s going to be comfortable to sit in. Fortunately, that’s not the case with the Flash XL

The extra support for size and weight makes the Flash XL the roomiest chair I’ve ever sat in. I stand at just under six feet, 190 pounds, and my legs have plenty of room all over the seat cushion, allowing me to spread my legs in any direction and still have support from the chair. The cushion also doesn’t squeeze my thighs in, offering plenty of room on either side of me that makes it more than comfortable to sit in for long periods of time.

In terms of the cushion itself, it’s neither soft nor hard. It feels like a good middle ground between sinking too far into the cushion and feeling like I’m sitting on a rock. The leather material of the cushion also doesn’t stick to my legs if I’m wearing shorts, so I can always freely move my legs without having to worry about peeling some skin off.

Whether I’m sitting in the chair for hours or just for a few minutes, I have yet to feel any discomfort from the Flash XL itself. The lumbar support is fantastic, the material feels nice, and there’s always plenty of room to move your legs around.

E-Win Flash XL: Flaws in the foundation

There are two major flaws with the foundation of the Flash XL. Specifically, the wheel base of the chair is dwarfed by the massive seat cushion that sits overhead. This can often lead to the entire chair tipping over if you lean too far forward or try to get out of it. There’s not really a fix for this problem, so you just have to remember to exit the chair slowly and not sit too far up on the cushion, otherwise, you could faceplant on the surface of your desk.

Another issue with the wheel base of the Flash XL is that the wheels themselves tend to get caught in the carpet on my floor. This isn’t a problem for all of you with no carpet or some kind of surfacing, but I’m rolling on pure carpet. Since the chair is so heavy and the wheels are so far underneath the chair, this leads to me trying to roll the chair somewhere, and it not budging whatsoever.

The only thing I can do is forcibly grab the underside of the chair and move it to where I want to go. I understand this is a niche issue that could be resolved by eliminating the carpet under the chair’s wheels, but it’s something I wanted to bring up nonetheless.

E-Win Flash XL: Assembly

As for the assembly of the Flash XL, it went mostly fine. However, the instructions are essentially a graphic novel that offers almost nothing in the way of plainly explaining what you need to do.

You can usually infer from context what the next step is, but my instructions failed to mention what screws to use at a certain part during assembly. This led to me trying to squint at the screws shown in the visualization of the instructions and hoping I used the correct ones.

The assembly of the Flash XL can be put together by a single person, but it’s considerably heavy, so attaching the cushion to the chair back might be a challenge for some. Other than a few missteps with the instructions, though, the Flash XL’s assembly wasn’t anything noticeably worse than other gaming chairs.

E-Win Flash XL: Verdict

Overall, the Flash XL is one of the best all-around gaming chairs you can purchase in 2025. It comes in a variety of colors and materials, all of which are relatively affordable for the quality you’re receiving in return.

Comfort is the easiest aspect of the Flash XL to point out and admire. The flexibility of the chair mixed with ample room across the seat cushion and chair back makes the Flash XL a pleasure to sit in for hours on end. While the lumbar pillow can be a tad annoying without it attached to anything, the magnetic headrest and the built-in lumbar support take care of most other concerns.

While the Flash XL does have some issues with its foundation, namely the wheels, and the assembly could be a better experience, don’t let that deter you from the chair. If you’re looking for a chair that can support a wide variety of sizes and weights, doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, and has all the comfort and features you expect from a premium gaming chair, the E-Win Flash XL might just solve all of your sitting needs.

Final verdict for the E-Win Flash XL: 8.5/10.
