Here are some of our favorite ideas for conference realignment in CFB 25.

One of the most creative aspects of the Dynasty mode in College Football 25 is experimenting with conference realignment. You can swap teams around, import Teambuilder teams, and play with any combination of teams you want. So, if you're looking for inspiration with some fun ideas to try, you've come to the right place.

Regional realignment

The first realignment idea has us reimagining the conferences in College Football 25 as being more regional but with some creative twists and turns. Here's a summary of how the conferences shake out here, with a gallery showing how they finally came together:

  • MWC - Mountain-area schools only. I added Montana from Teambuilder. Think Colorado schools, Utah schools, etc.
  • MAC - The most middle of the road schools from the middle of America. I also added NDSU and SDSU from Teambuilder.
  • SEC - More regionally in the Southeast. I added Kennesaw State for the fun of it as well as Miami and Florida State.
  • PAC 12 -Two divisions now (California and Pacific) with all West Coast teams.
  • Big 12 - Classic Big 12, with actually 12 teams. Nebraska, OU, and Mizzou are back and added Tulane.
  • Big Ten - Actually 10 teams with all being classic Big 10 programs.
  • ACC - 20-team catch-all conference generally located on the East Coast. I wanted to see what a really large conference would feel like.
  • American - All military schools, Notre Dame, Liberty, and UMass.
  • C-USA - All Texas schools split off and took over Conference USA. So, just every school located in Texas.
  • Sun-Belt - Divisions split to be more regional and added in some lower-tier programs
  • No FBS Independent schools.

You can try out some different ideas along this same train of thought, so be creative! Also, using the just-announced PAC-12 update could be a fun way to update this as well.

#2: Relegation/promotion realignment

In this realignment, I have several tiers of conferences that work on a promotion and relegation system. This features several Teambuilder schools to simulate an FCS integration, but that is optional. Here's how this one works:

  • Sun-Belt is the new FCS. The top two teams from the Sun-Belt are promoted to one of the "lower league" conferences.
  • The lower league conferences are C-USA, MWC, MAC, and American.
  • The worst two teams from these conferences are relegated to the Sun-Belt. The best 2-3 teams are promoted to the PAC-12, which acts as an intermediary for the "upper league" conferences.
  • The worst two teams from the upper league are relegated to the PAC-12 and replaced by the top two teams.
  • The upper league conferences are the Big 10, Big 12, ACC, and SEC.

This one is a fun challenge for someone wanting to take an FCS program and get them promoted all the way to a strong conference where they can then contend for championships. Feel free to try different iterations of this as you see fit!
