Blizzard Entertainment caused a huge stir with a post on player housing recently, but closer to home is patch 11.1 for World of Warcraft: The War Within.
Word of Warcraft (WoW) made headlines in recent weeks with a big update on their upcoming and highly anticipated player housing. While this only will be a feature in the next expansion, there is far more interesting news afoot, with patch 11.1 and Season 2 of The War Within (TWW) quickly approaching.
Although no confirmed date has been announced, speculation and rumors lead everyone to believe that February 2025 will see us heading into the next major WoW update.
The War Within patch 11.1 release date
The main thought on the minds of the players is the question of when exactly the patch will arrive. With the last patch, 11.0.7, dropping in the middle of December 2024, everyone is itching to have the new one right now. Patch 11.1 may not have an exact release date just yet – but chances are that it is sooner than you expect.
With Plunderstorm currently ongoing in WoW, the in-game calendar shows an end date of February 18. With that, many have speculated that the date for the new patch will be between then and February 25. However, according to the roadmap seen above, it also seems as though Plunderstorm overlaps with 11.0.7 and 11.1, which could be a hint that we are getting the patch in the next two weeks.
Many other points of speculation exist, such as the culmination of the Turbulent Timeways event – which ends on February 25. Previously we have seen both patch 10.1 and 10.2 released during the final week and the following week of the event’s end, respectively.

What to expect in 11.1
As with any major patch in WoW, there are some big changes on the horizon. For 11.1, we find ourselves venturing into the Undermine, a Goblin-run metropolis. There is a plethora of class changes already seen on the Public Test Realm (PTR), and an alteration to the Mythic+ (M+) system too.
The patch brings with it:
- A new zone – Undermine
- A new raid – Liberation of Undermine
- A new dungeon – Operation: Floodgate
- A new feature for travel – D.R.I.V.E
- New delves
- New renown
This is merely the beginning of the WoW journey in 2025, with a lot more to come according to their roadmap. With the recent interest in player housing and its inception possibly in WoW: Midnight, the next expansion, there is a lot of chatter around the game’s longevity. Although player numbers may rise and fall quite frequently, a new patch is always a great time to return as things are fresh and fun.
For now, we are waiting patiently for Blizzard to give us a confirmation of the dates, but it’s safe to say that we will not be waiting too long.
