Who will be filling The Guard’s vacant spot for the 2024 VCT season?

With the recent news of The Guard getting removed from the 2024 VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) season, rumors are now circulating about who would take the open spot. One candidate is G2 Esports because the team missed the chance at a VCT spot last year after controversy surrounding the then-CEO Carlos “Ocelote” Rodríguez Santiago.

The Guard's VCT spot

In case you haven't been closely following the news of The Guard not participating in the VCT 2024 season, it was due to a missed deadline. However, the former players are able to participate in the VCT 2024 season as long as they can find a team.

However, with The Guard's spot now being vacant, there are several organizations that can potentially return to the VALORANT stage.

The possible organizations

Originally reported by Lembo006 on social media on Sept. 3, G2 Esports and FlyQuest were involved in the start of talks about acquiring The Guard's VCT spot. While it is unclear how far these talks have progressed, fans of G2 Esports are excited about the prospect of making it back to the VCT. This is because the team was unable to secure a franchise spot last year due to controversy surrounding the previous CEO's interactions with media personality Andrew Tate.

Acquiring the spot would also see FlyQuest make a return to the VCT scene after playing in Game Changers North America Series 2, where they finished in 15th place out of the 16 teams. For G2 Esports and FlyQuest, this may be a chance to cement their legacy in VALORANT and return to the main stage after some time away.

When will we know who secured the spot?

There is no confirmation of who will take the vacant VCT spot. We can expect to wait a little longer to know for sure.
