The Upper Bracket of VCT Masters Tokyo continues with the high-profile matchup of TL vs EG in a battle of EMEA vs Americas.
When the regular season began after VCT LOCK//IN, it was a question of whether either Team Liquid or Evil Geniuses would even qualify for Masters Tokyo and Champions. Now, TL vs EG decides the first team to make the Upper Final, which is just one step away from a Grand Final appearance.

TL vs EG: Will the miracle run take a detour through the Lower Bracket?
Both Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses have done the unthinkable this year. TL bested FNATIC to take the VCT EMEA championship and Evil Geniuses have ran through the likes of Cloud9, NRG, DRX, and LOUD. The circumstances and paths to get here make this a highly anticipated contest.
One on side, you have TL. They are coming off of a close match against EDward Gaming. The outcome could have easily gone a different way, but that more than likely strengthened the will of TL and its group of stars.
Then you have EG, who are firing on all cylinders. Everything they are doing and every play they are making just looks perfect. If this so-called "miracle" run through Masters Tokyo ends up in the Lower Bracket, so be it. Upper or Lower, whoever has to face either of these teams next should be worried.

TL vs EG full match recap
Map 1: Fracture
Evil Geniuses were fired up in the early moments of Fracture. They continued their success in pistol and bonus rounds, which got them to a very quick four round lead. A barrage of utility and Ultimates is what finally got Team Liquid on the board. That was about it, though, as EG's attacking strategy was too much to handle. Truly, there was nothing fancy in the first half. It was just pure overwhelming domination by EG.
TL got another round under their belt, but there really isn't anything else to say about the opening map. Evil Geniuses squashed them like a bug and put themselves just one map win away from advancing in the VCT Masters Tokyo Upper Bracket. TL has one chance to even the score and force a map three, or they will be one loss away from elimination.
Map 2: Haven
The first round on Haven looked promising for Team Liquid, but a 4K by C0M (shown below) shut down those hopes. They did manage to take the bonus from EG and get their first point much sooner this time around. Even with more rounds by TL, it still looked completely in EG's control. Team Liquid fought hard to make sure things didn't get out of hand like they did on Fracture, however.
TL continued to stay in it with victories in the pistol and subsequent round. A couple of back and forth rounds looked promising, but Jawgemo stole one away with a Sheriff 3K. That was the nail in the coffin for Team Liquid. A 4K by Boostio to stop a Spike defusal pushed EG further ahead. Three more by Jawgemo got EG to series point and the map was theirs a short time later. Evil Geniuses advanced in the Upper Bracket and sent TL down.
