In an unexpected move, T1 VALORANT has announced the signing of former DRX star stax as they head into VCT Pacific Stage 2.

DRX hasn't qualified for an international tournament in 2024, which led to some roster changes. Their iconic in-game leader, Kim "stax" Gu-taek, was benched as a part of those changes, but now finds himself on T1.

This comes shortly after T1's elimination from VCT Masters Shanghai. T1 went 0-2 against Americas teams at the tournament, and with stax available to look for opportunities, it appears that the organization jumped at the chance.

stax joins T1 to compete in VCT Pacific 2024 Stage 2

This is definitely an interesting move, as the benching of stax happened during Shanghai. Just as the signing of stax to T1 does.

T1 has historically had bad luck in VALORANT, but that luck has changed with their inclusion into VCT Pacific. They finally proved they can hang with the best in their region, qualifying for a Masters tournament despite the early exit.

From Vision Strikers to DRX, stax helped shape the trajectory of VALORANT. Not just in the Pacific region, but globally. And now, T1 has snagged one of their rivals' former superstars.

As it stands then, the T1 VALORANT roster consists of:

  • Ha "Sayaplayer" Jung-woo
  • Lee "Carpe" Jae-hyeok
  • Ham "iZu" Woo-joo
  • Kevin "xccurate" Susanto
  • Daniel "Rossy" Abedrabbo
  • Kim "stax" Gu-taek
  • Yoon "Autumn" Eu-teum (Coach)

T1 shared a post on X to announce the signing, but also uploaded an introduction video on their YouTube channel.

In that video, it shows stax arriving at T1 headquarters and meeting the team. Near the end, it lists all six players for the T1 VALORANT roster, and states that stax is joining for Stage 2 of VCT Pacific 2024.

Nowhere does it indicate that he is replacing someone on the roster, so it looks as though T1 will foster a six-man squad heading into Stage 2. It is also unknown whether stax will resume IGL duties with his new team or simply be a role-player.
