Paper Rex vs GenG: The Clash for the title of the Pacific Best

Paper Rex and GenG faced each other in the VCT Pacific Stage 1 Grand Finals, a match that brings the two heavyweights together. At stake is the prestige and also VCT Points that will be awarded to the winner of the match. The Grand Finals is a best-of-five series. Paper Rex comes into the Finals via the upper bracket while GenG survived the lower bracket for this match. Here’s all you need to know about the Paper Rex vs GenG match during the VCT Pacific Stage 1. 

Paper Rex is undoubtedly one of the best teams in the Pacific region. The team finished second in the group stage just behind DRX. Their only loss came against Team Secret, a very surprising result. However, the two teams are fairly familiar with each other and as such know each other’s playstyle thoroughly.

Gen.G was part of a fairly competitive Group Alpha. They faced off against the likes of Talon Esports, DRX, and PRX. With a 3-3 score, they did not have a clear majority over the other teams in their group. However, their superior map difference ensured they topped the group stage and had a sizeable lead coming into the playoffs. 

Paper Rex and GenG have faced each other previously in the group stage. The match went the distance of three maps and ultimately, Paper Rex won the series with a 2-1 victory. It was a fairly close series with both of the first two maps going the distance of 24 rounds. While GenG won Lotus, Icebox went Paper Rex’s way. Bind was completely in Paper Rex’s favor and they secured a commanding lead in their own group. 

The winner of this match will also receive 3 VCT points. The value of these VCT points will be more useful later in the year closer to VCT Champs 2024.
