Paper Rex have signed Russian prodigy something. After a MVP laden Split 1 in VCL Japan, he will now be a part of the VCT Pacific League.

With the VCT Pacific league starting soon, one of the most popular partnered teams in the league -- Paper Rex -- has added a player to their roster. The organization signed Russian prodigy Ilya 'something' Petrov as the newest member on the roster this week.

'something' special

Petrov has been a standout player in the professional Japanese VALORANT scene. At 21 years old, he has been consistently demonstrating that he is the most impressive Duelist in the VCL Japan circuit. Time and time again, something has managed to statistically stand out among the pack.

During VCL Japan Split 1, something played for Sengoku Gaming. Although his team was knocked out in the second round of the lower bracket and placed fourth overall, something's individual performances stood out. In a BO5 match against FENNEL, who eventually won the Split, something achieved an impressive 332 ACS across five maps and had a +62 kill differential throughout the series.

Paper Rex has added him to the team but not mentioned whether he will be playing in the initial games of the VCT Pacific league. The Singapore-based organization best known for their aggressive 'W-gaming' style, it's also home to two of the most impressive duelist mains in the APAC region -- Jason "f0rsakeN" Susanto and Wang "Jinggg" Jing Jie. The addition of something to the squad will bolster the firepower available on the roster.

Paper Rex's first game in the VCT Pacific League is on March 26. They will face off against Japanese team DetonatioN FocusMe. Paper Rex looked impressive over the course of 2022, but still do not have an international title under their belts. Perhaps this is the team's moment to prove that they are worth "something."
