After finishing the first series of VCT Masters Tokyo, Ethan of Evil Geniuses follows up on a previous comment regarding expectations.

Every team fielded a representative for a pre-event press conference at VCT Masters Tokyo. It revealed a lot regarding the team's thoughts on the format, the competition, and their own expectations. If you look to Ethan "Ethan" Arnold of Evil Geniuses, he'll tell you expectations are nonexistent for his squad.

Well, Evil Geniuses secured a solid win in the very first game of the tournament. In the post-match press conference after defeating FUT Esports, Ethan was asked to follow up on his pre-event thoughts. According to him, the win is nice, obviously, but expectations remain the same going forward.

In a question directed to everyone at the table during the VCT Masters Tokyo pre-event press conferences, Ethan answered first. What exactly are the expectations for Evil Geniuses coming into the event? They aren't low. Ethan says they simply aren't there at all.

Ethan: "We don't really have any expectations. It went pretty well in the regular season, not having any expectations. We're going to keep it that way."

A dominating map one, Split, went to Evil Geniuses against FUT Esports. Map two was much closer, but EG pulled out a couple of quick overtime rounds to take Lotus. That gave Ethan and company the very first series victory of VCT Masters Tokyo.

During the post-match press conference, Ethan was asked to follow up on his previous statement about expectations. He was clear that any win will build confidence for Evil Geniuses, but nothing has changed regarding his personal expectations for the tournament.

Ethan: "Any win is going to help with confidence. I think we'll bring that into our next game, whoever we play against. I come with the mindset, for a lot of events, that we're underdogs. I think it helps a lot mentally. It worked really well for the regular season, with no expectations. I'm going to keep it that way, myself. The goal is always to win, though."
