EG vs DRX: BuZz and co. are here to prove themselves after a shaky Day 1

Undoubtedly, DRX has been one of the strongest teams in the Asian region. The team has dominated most of its opponents and more often than not, it is a favorite to win tournaments. The team is the favorite in Group B, but this EG vs DRX match will be their first real test. With BuZz in excellent form, as we saw on Day 1, DRX is a team that can go on to win Masters, but they were shaky.

Going up against Evil Geniuses, however, is a much better proposition for DRX because they will have VODS to review. Evil Geniuses had a miracle run through the NA Regional League, but now they are up against the bigger teams.

Evil Geniuses finished third in the NA Regional League losing to NRG in the Lower bracket finals. They had already defeated EG once before in the playoffs, so they finishing third was not a huge surprise. But the team did not always have a great start initially. They started the League with a 1-4 standings, and slowly but surely made their way into the playoffs.

DRX has been a team that has impressed fans with their standout calls and strategic gameplay. However, the Pacific League is one where fans can witness a multitude of playstyles. For eg. Paper Rex is a team that strives in chaos and information play. On the other hand, DRX is a team that relies on their strategic research and some variations of their set plays.

This EG vs DRX match will be a test between two playstyles. The Evil Geniuses roster is not as experienced as DRX, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Map 1: Fracture

The first map saw EG off to a very strong start. Even though EG won the first few rounds in a row, there were moments where their players were able to clutch it out. This particular play by Jawgemo highlighted the player's awareness and understanding of their position.

Evil Geniuses simply had the set strats necessary to counter DRX. Even though Fracture is one of the Korean team's favorite maps, EG's playstyle seemed to hard-counter DRX in their gameplay.
You can see in the clip below how Foxy9 simply had nowhere to go and was caught out by all of EG's utilities. Evil Geniuses got a kill without a single bullet being fired.

Map 2: Ascent

The second map saw EG continue its perfection. EG started the map with the pistol round win and then winning the next two rounds as well. However, both teams started trading rounds and ultimately, they ended up with a 7-5 score in favor of the North Americans.

The two teams went toe to toe, but ultimately, the slight advantage that EG has proved to be a signficant advantage. Throughout the map, there were indiviudal brilliant performances that saw EG win rounds that they didn't really deserve to.
