Bandai Namco has announced an emergency patch for Tekken 8, set for April 17, addressing Season 2’s imbalance with key nerfs to offense and Heat mechanics. While no character-specific changes are included yet, the update signals a shift toward restoring gameplay balance.
Bandai Namco has announced the official release date for "Emergency Patch", as well as the Tekken 8 Emergency Patch Notes (Version 2.00.02) following widespread criticism of Season 2.
The Tekken 8 Season 2 emergency patch goes live on April 17 (11 a.m. JST) , and aims to quickly address gameplay imbalances - especially the overemphasis on offensive mechanics.
The emergency patch primarily targets the over-tuning of offensive moves in Tekken 8 Season 2. Heat Dash damage has been scaled down as has the frame advantage for Heat Engagers. Max HP has also been buffed. Read on to find the full list of changes in the Tekken 8 Patch Notes.
Be aware that it does not include specific character changes, which will likely come when the patch drops.
TL;DR Major Highlights of the Tekken 8 Emergency Patch
- Max HP increased to reduce one-sided matches
- Nerfs to Heat Dash damage, Heat Engager frame advantage, and chip damage
- No character-specific changes yet
- Bandai Namco issues formal apology for Season 2 backlash
- Next balance patch scheduled for mid-May

Bandai Namco apologizes for Season 2 direction
In a rare move, Bandai Namco issued a public apology in the official Tekken 8 emergency patch notes. The dev team admitted they shifted "too heavily toward offense" despite earlier promises of defensive buffs in Season 2.
"We sincerely apologize that the actual balance changes did not align with the development intentions and policy previously communicated to players.
We deeply regret not being able to address the improvements and adjustments that the community had hoped for."
Tekken 8 Emergency Patch Notes - Key Changes
Bandai Namco did not release any character specific patch notes but instead laid out what major changes they will be making to game mechanics. In general the Tekken 8 dev team is on a mission to tackle "one-side gameplay".
1. Increased Maximum Health
Characters' maximum health value will be increased to account for the "current damage environment". Bandai Namco said this is to reduce the amount of matches "too easily decided by one-sided momentum". Overall, this feels like a band-aid to give the devs time to tackle the bigger problems that came from the Season 2 in future updates.
"In light of the current damage environment trending toward inflation—driven by offense-heavy game balance and increased aerial combo damage—the maximum health value will be increased. This adjustment is intended to ease situations where matches are too easily decided by one-sided momentum."

2. Gradual Adjustments to "Overly High-Reward Moves"
The April 15 update will also tackle "inflation of attack strength and combos" by nerfing moves that believe can be spammed repeatedly to gain "advantageous situations".
What is interesting is the Tekken 8 devs state their approach is to implement adjustments that "can be done quickly" which, much like the increased health, seems like a temporary solution to a bigger problem.
Bandai Namco also hinted at this problem needing more than a quick-fix by saying: "We recognize this as a game-wide issue rather than a problem limited to specific characters, and we plan to continue reviewing and tuning these aspects progressively".
Examples of adjustments included in this April 15 update (Ver 2.00.02)
- Balance adjustments to high-performance moves that can repeatedly create advantageous situations and lead to one-sided gameplay.
- Adjustments to moves with disproportionately high reward compared to their risk, ensuring fairer risk-reward balance.
While Bandai Namco did not give any specific character examples, it seems they most likely will look to nerf new moves added in Season 2 that are high plus frames on block. This in turn could deal with the increase in 50/50 situations which many players - including Knee - complained about.
3. Rebalancing the Heat System: Offense vs Defense
In the new Tekken 8 update, the Heat System will be adjusted to benefit the defender more. Bandai Namco said the current Heat System gives the attacking player benefits "considered too great".
The following adjustments have been made to Heat in the upcoming emergency patch:
- Revised damage scaling when using Heat Dash to suppress combo damage inflation.
- Adjusted frame advantage on hit for Heat Engagers, maintaining benefits for the attacker while allowing the defender more opportunities to respond.
- Reduced additional chip damage during Heat.
- Changed the system so that moves which already deal chip damage do not receive extra chip damage while in Heat state.
Bandai Namco added that future updates will tackle the amount of chip damage dealt by individual moves.

Will the "Emergency Patch" be enough?
It's been two weeks since Bandai Namco shared they plan to make an emergency patch to fix the glaring issues in Season 2. However, the patch notes shared seem to hint at the developers opting for quick sweeping changes rather than individual character nerfs.
One major issue of Season 2 not addressed at all in the Ver 2.00.02 Tekken Patch Notes post is the sheer number of tracking mid attacks that were added. This has made sidestepping far more dangerous, and given players on the defence less options to avoid attacks. Furthermore, a lot of the new moves have multiple properties.
Outside of that, Bandai Namco's post does seem to touch on key issues voiced by the community; chip damage, excessive plus frames, overpowered Heat System and Heat Engagers.
When is the next Tekken 8 balance patch?
Bandai Namco shared that the next balance patch will drop in mid-May and "include reducing air combo damage and revaluating the performance of Heat Burst."
No major balance patch for an entire month could be quite a controversial decision for the competitive scene, especially with the Tekken World Tour starting up. That said, Bandai Namco said they will continue to focus on "resolving cases of overly dominant character performance and interactions that result in one-sided gameplay".
