Foldable Phones are the future

Foldable phones are all the rage this year with the Samsung Galaxy Fold 6, OnePlus Open, Motorola Razr and more. However, one of the biggest phone manufacturers has been absent from the Foldable Phones craze, but it seems that might not be the case for long. If the latest reports are to be believed, then Apple will have foldable phones in 2026.

Apple to reportedly launch foldable phones in 2026

As reported by Jeff Pu Apple will release a foldable iPhone and foldable iPad in 2026. The foldable iPad/iMac will launch first and the phone sometime later in 2026.

Both devices would still be in early stages of development considering the potential release timeline of 2026. Apple venturing into foldable phones and iPads could be a big game changer for the industry. Foldable devices offer several benefits over regular phones with smaller form factors.

The biggest advantage is versatility as foldable phones allow users to seamlessly transition between a Phone and a larger screen. It may take the form of a tablet or it might just be a phone with more real estate to play around with. Larger screens allow for more use cases such as designing, media consumption, and much more. Keeping a larger screen portable ensures you can do work while on the go. Mobile phones are portable enough, but in most cases, you cannot use their screen for meaningful work at a fast pace.

But of course, there are several disadvantages as well and the biggest pain point would be the price. For a technology that is brand new and requires significant hardware changes, foldable phones are costly. Going by existing foldable phones from OnePlus and Samsung Foldable phones are very costly. Apple as a phone manufacturer, is well-known to price its hardware on the higher side.

With more hardware, foldable phones also weigh much more than their counterparts. At some point, the weight of the phone would be a limiting factor for people wanting to buy the foldable phone. Striking the balance between weight, size, and functionality is the key point for foldable phones. Despite the advancements in technology, foldable phones are still very much fragile. A drop or excessive force on the phones might result in the phone getting significant damage either to the screen or the hardware.

That being said, there is no official announcement just yet. Since these devices are still very very early in their development stage, it might also be the case that Apple decides to simply not move ahead with foldable phones. Regardless, if you are a foldable phone fan, you might be in for a treat in 2026.
