How does the Street Fighter 6 Drive System work?
The video also showcased the new Drive System mechanic that's unique to Street Fighter 6. This mechanic features Overdrive attacks as enhanced versions of special moves. These moves use up two bars of the Drive Gauge, which replenishes itself over time.
The Drive System also includes Drive Impact, which is a universal attack that all characters can use. Drive Impact takes up one bar of the Drive Gauge. As for Drive Parry, it can be used for defense against all attacks save for throw attacks.
"Drive Parry can be performed instantly," according to the video. "And can also be held down. The Drive Gauge instantly starts reducing once activated, so be sure to use this wisely. If executed at a specific time, Drive Parry will result in a perfect parry, causing a slowdown and enabling a huge punish not usually available from a regular parry."
Next, Drive Rush is available to all characters. It costs one Drive Gauge bar after canceling out of Drive Parry. If a player taps forward twice after a cancelable normal attack, it costs three bars. Finally, Drive Reversal lets a player do a counterattack after the block an initial attack. It uses up two bars.
A depleted Drive Gauge results in a character entering a burnout state that doesn't allow them to use any Drive attacks until the Drive Gauge is fully replenished.
