EVO 2023 is over, but the Mayor of Las Vegas is making sure the world hears about it.

EVO 2023 wrapped up late on August 6, 2023. The popular fighting tournament series, which featured games such as Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, pulled in thousands of fans and views during its three-day duration. Not only did EVO 2023 pull the attention of fighting game enthusiasts, but it also brought the Mayor of Las Vegas to the event.

And what he did surprised everybody.

EVO 2023 ends with a bang, where even the Mayor of Las Vegas made an appearance

With eight titles taking the stage at EVO 2023, fans were given more than enough fighting action during the weekend. Games included were Tekken, Mortal Kombat 11, Street Fighter 6 and more. The series even announced next year's dates, taking place on July 26-28 2024.

The end of the event, following the Grand Finals, is when the Mayor of Las Vegas made an appearance.

EVO, being founded in 2002, has been going on for over 20 years now. Its massive success over the years has set a high bar for the Fighting Games Community.

This massive feat did not go unnoticed by the Mayor of Las Vegas.

At the end of yesterday's festivities, the Mayor made an appearance on stage and granted the EVO Founders a key to the city. Not only that, but he even announced that August 6 is officially National EVO Day.

What started as some friends playing arcade games back in 1996, is now a National Holiday. The esports community as a whole is on top of the world right now, and EVO is helping lead the charge.

EVO 2024 is only a year away

EVO 2024 will be just as exciting as EVO 2023, if not, probably more. The question is, which games will be featured next year?

Street Fighter 6, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Dragon Ball Fighterz and more will probably share the spotlight, but will we see a new title take the stage? Maybe a new game will create a wave over the next year. Only time will tell.
