Game Freak drops a new Legends: Z-A update that makes Rank Battles much fairer and more enjoyable.

In line with the beginning of the second season for Ranked Battles, the Pokémon Legends: Z-A update 1.0.2 is now online. This applies several changes to the game’s PvP mechanics and fixes various bugs.

For those who haven’t played the game since yesterday, opening your Switch console will automatically download the latest update. Here's what's new.

These changes affect the game’s missions:

  • Fixed a bug when Absol can’t be captured during the 9th Main Mission, entitled “Chase That Mysterious Pokémon!” This bug reportedly triggers when the player’s boxes are full.
  • Fixed a bug that makes a side mission impossible to complete if its objective involves using a Pokémon move on a target, and the day/night transition happens.
  • Fixed a bug that makes an NPC Trainer unable to send out a Pokémon if the player uses Mega Evolution and the opposing Trainer switches Pokémon at the same time.
  • Fixed other gameplay-related issues.

Also, here are some changes meant to make Rank Battles more balanced and worth your time:

  • Points earned are now adjusted based on ranking and will no longer be reduced in case of losing battles.
  • Additional rewards will be applied to battles.

What to expect after the 1.0.2 update

Once you’re done updating your Pokémon Legends: Z-A, any minor bugs that you previously encountered should be fixed by now. It can be such a headache to encounter glitches that make you unable to progress in the game’s story, so if you’re stuck on a certain mission, now is the right time to work on it.

After all, Pokémon Legends: Z-A was never particularly known for being buggy. And since most players who started at launch have likely finished the story by now, these bug fixes won’t make a huge difference for them anymore.

The best part of the 1.0.2 update, arguably, is the new Ranked Battle rewards. If you’re a PvP-savvy Trainer who’s been spending a lot of time in online battles lately, you’ll definitely appreciate the extra goodies.
