Pokémon GO Trainers call for big change to Field Research

Pokémon GO Trainers are asking Niantic for a big adjustment to how Field Research works in the game. The demand comes after an unusually busy set of events. Sunday, July 20 saw three separate events all on the same day, with the Water Festival, Quaxly Community Day and Summer Concert all operating.

All three of these events come with special Field Research that has event exclusive Pokémon. This includes Spinda, Special Background Quaxly and Costume Lapras. At the moment, you can only get Field Research from a stop once per day. If you want the chance to get Spinda, you cannot interact with a PokéStop until 5pm. That means including during Quaxly Community Day.

Now, in a post on community subreddit The Silph Road, Trainers are asking for an adjustment to the system in future.

The call is especially for rural players, who might not have a lot of PokéStops around them.

The Trainer points out that with four potential different Field Research per stop, "If you care about all 3 events, and you don't live in an urban area, you're going to have to pick and choose what research you really need so you're not blocking yourself from getting the next event's research, and the rarity of the sought-after encounters means there's a very good chance it won't even be what you're looking for when the events change."

To solve this issue, Trainers are suggesting that Field Research per PokéStop should refresh when an event starts or ends. So, you could interact with a stop during a Community Day and after a Community Day and get Field Research twice.

This suggestion was well received by the community. Trainers were quick to point out that this would get people playing and engaging with the game even more. Currently, you are actually incentivised not to play for certain parts of the day if you want to keep a Field Research chance free for a later event.

Events like GO Fest show us that this is possible in the game, as it has been a feature before. While this issue has been made worse with the unique Concert event in an evening, this feature would be a big win if implemented.
