What biomes can you find?

The Pokémon GO Rediscover Kanto event is the next step in the Rediscover GO refresh of Pokémon GO. From Monday April 22 (10am PDT) until Thursday May 9 (8pm PDT) Pokémon from the Kanto region will be spawning in an all new biome system.

A biome system has long been requested for the game. Now, trainers can head out to specific locations in order to hunt the Pokémon that they want. The Rediscover Kanto event is the launch for this system. However, biomes will be remaining in Pokémon GO after this event concludes.

Pokémon GO Rediscover Kanto event bonuses

There are a range of event bonuses available to trainers who want to get stuck in and rediscover Kanto.

  • Increased XP for a seven-day PokéStop spin streak.
  • Increased XP for a seven-day Pokémon catch streak.
  • Friendship levels will increase faster than normal (2x) through opening Gifts, trading Pokémon, or battling together in raids, Gyms, or Trainer Battles.
  • Increased chance to encounter Shiny Bulbasaur, Shiny Charmander, and Shiny Squirtle in their respective biomes.

Additionally, evolving the Kanto starter Pokémon during this event will grant them their legacy attacks from past Community Days.

Pokémon GO biomes

Niantic have kept a lot of details underwraps about the introduction of biomes in Pokémon GO. They want trainers to head out and discover the biomes for themselves.

Here's what we know.

Discovered biomes:

  • Forest
  • Beach
  • Lake
  • River
  • Ocean
  • Mountain
  • City

In their official Rediscover GO post, they share examples of what sort of Pokémon spawn in a few of the biomes.

  • The forest biome is home to Pokémon first discovered in Kanto such as Bulbasaur, Caterpie, Weedle, Oddish, and more.
  • The mountain biome is home to Sandshrew, Clefairy, Zubat, Diglett, and more.
  • The beach biome is home to Squirtle, Psyduck, Seel, Magikarp, and more.
  • The city biome is home to Caterpie, Pidgey, Machop, Gastly, and more.

Niantic also added that towns and other populated areas are included in the city biome.
