Learn more about the similarities between Fossil Pokémon and their real-life counterparts!
The Pokémon Company announced on May 14th that the Pokémon Fossil Museum, previously exclusive to Japan, will finally make its way to North America with an exhibit at Chicago’s Field Museum starting May 22, 2026.
For the first time outside of Japan, visitors can see various fossilized specimens of ancient life forms that once roamed the Earth and learn about the Pokémon species they inspired.
Like the Pokémon Fossil Museum in Japan, the event organizers in Chicago will display fossilized and skeletal Pokémon models together with actual fossils so that attendees can compare the remains of a Tyrantrum to those of the famous T-Rex, as well as Archeops to those of the Archaeopteryx.

More about the Pokémon Fossil Museum
The Pokémon Fossil Museum first opened its doors to the public on July 4, 2021, at the Mikasa City Museum in Hokkaido, Japan.
This event is made possible with the collaboration between the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo and The Pokémon Company. Throughout the years, the exhibit became available in other museums across Japan, with the most recent one at the Hofu Science Museum in the Yamaguchi Prefecture.
