The Pokémon company have announced a collaboration with Aardman Animation.

The Pokémon company has announced a surprise collaboration with animation company, Aardman. In a video posted to social media, it was announced that both companies will be joining forces for a new 'Claymation' project. However, it will not release until 2027.

Aardman Animations are an animation studio based in Bristol, United Kingdom. They have become iconic for their stop motion and clay animation techniques. The studio is best known for things like Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run and Shaun The Sheep.

Pokémon collaborating with Aardman Animation

With the very long wait, until 2027, we don't yet know much about what is going to come of this Pokémon and Aardman Animation collaboration. However, we can expect either a feature length film or animated series.

The question on every Pokémon fans mind is exactly who will star in this series. With Ash Ketchum retired, it seems unlikely we will see Pokémon's most iconic character in clay form. But, we can still hold out hope for some of our favourite Pokémon to appear in this unique style. Hopefully we get to see old favourites like Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle as well as Aardmans takes on Legendary Pokémon like MewTwo, Rayquaza and others. This will be a brand new look for any Pokémon featured.

This announcement adds to a growing list of exciting Pokémon projects on the horizon. Fans are still clamouring for details on the next Pokémon game, Legends Z-A. Currently, this is is due to release at some point in 2025. 2024 has certainly been a very quiet year for Pokémon fans, but there is at least plenty to look forward too over the next few years.

Who are Aardman Animation?

Based in the UK, Aardman Animation have become iconic across the world for their animated projects. While this collaboration between Aardman and the Pokémon company could well be their biggest project to date, they are best known for Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run.

Notably, there has also been several Aardman Video Games, including Wallace & Gromit in The Grand Getaway which released in 2023. It does not seem like this will be a video game collaboration, but there is certainly an outside chance.

Aardman are about to release a brand new Wallace & Gromit feature film, called Vengeance Most Fowl, which releases on Christmas Day in the United Kingdom and on January 3, 2025 worldwide.
