Should you evolve Applin into Flapple or Appletun in Pokémon GO?

Applin is now in Pokémon GO, a brand new and exciting addition to the game. This Pokémon brings with it not one but two evolution options, which are Flapple and Appletun. However, are these Pokémon exciting just because of their food-based designs or are they any good in Pokémon GO? We're comparing both Flapple and Appletun in Pokémon GO to help you make your mind up on which one to evolve a good Applin into.

This will look at both of these Pokémon as a Raid Attacker and what we know about their relative abilities in PvP.

Is Flapple good in Pokémon GO?

Flapple is a Grass and Dragon-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO, and has the following stats in game:

Max CP:
2788
Attack:
214
Defense:
144
Stamina:
172

Sadly, these aren't very exciting stats, especially for a Dragon-type Pokémon. These Pokémon usually have a lot higher CP than other types of Pokémon.

As a result, this Pokémon is just pretty weak. It doesn't have a great moveset, and therefore isn't really a relevant option for either Raids or PvP. It's an iconic and unique Pokémon though!

Is Appletun good in Pokémon GO?

Just like Flapple, Appletun is also a Grass and Dragon-type Pokémon. Here are its stats in game:

Max CP:
2772
Attack:
178
Defense:
146
Stamina:
242

Appletun is also not a very powerful Pokémon in Pokémon GO for either Raids or PvP. It will be a little better in PvP than Flapple, thanks to having higher stamina. However, there are lots of good counters against Dragon-type Pokémon and the double weakness to Ice-type attacks is a major achilles heel.

Is Flapple or Appletun better?

So, back to the original question, is Flapple or Appletun better in Pokémon GO? As a Dragon-type Raid Attacker, technically Flapple is better as it does more damage with the Charged Attack Outrage. However, there are a LOT of better Dragon-type options to use so this really isn't a good Pokémon to be using.

Appletun will be better in PvP, but again, is still not a very good option. We suggest simply evolving one Applin into each evolution and leaving it at that. Perhaps Applin will get a Community Day down the line that might change how good and useful these Pokémon are!
