Applin has officially arrived in Pokémon GO and can evolve into Flapple and Appletun straight away. These are three really exciting additions to the game that are some of the most iconic Pokémon designs introduced over the last few generations.
However, like we've seen occasionally in Pokémon GO, these Pokémon will have some special item requirements in Pokémon GO. However, this will not be an item we already have in the game. Instead, to mark these new Pokémon joining the game, we are getting two new items in Pokémon GO.
Here's everything you need to know about you can evolve Applin into either Flapple or Appletun.
Evolving Applin in Pokémon GO
Applin has two evolutions, and you will need different items in the game in order to evolve each one. Of course, for both evolutions you will also need a pretty huge amount of Applin candy. This is standard for major Dragon-type evolutions but with both Flapple and Appletun to get this does end up being a lot of candy.
To evolve Applin into Flapple in Pokémon GO:
- 200 Applin Candy
- 20 Tart Apples
To evolve Applin into Appletun in Pokémon GO:
- 200 Applin Candy
- 20 Sweet Apples

That means you will need to make sure to use Pinap Berries or even Silver Pinap berries when you are hunting Applin in Pokémon GO. You'll need 400 candy just to get both evolutions before even considering powering one up. Of course, you could also use Rare candy too.
Having a Dragon-type or Grass-type Mega Pokémon at Mega Level 2 or 3 will also get you extra candy and candy XL when catching Applin. Groudon also covers Grass-type catches too. There are lots of Dragon-types so this shouldn't be too hard.
As well as that, to evolve Applin into either Flapple or Appletun you will need a brand new evolution item in Pokémon GO. These are Tart Apples and Sweet Apples.
How to get Tart Apples and Sweet Apples in Pokémon GO
From the start of the Sweet surprises event, you can find Tart Apples and Sweet Apples around the map, in the same way you can find Applin in Pokémon GO. These items will be contained inside new Apples that will be spawning around the map.
Clicking these Apples can reveal either Tart Apples or Sweet Apples as well as also potentially Applin. Hopefully you'll get the Apples you need as well as catch enough Applin to get the candy you need too.
