Fusion coming to Pokémon GO with Necrozma debut

Pokémon fusion is finally coming to Pokémon GO with GO Fest 2024. It was much speculated that fusion would be arriving in the game, alongside the debut of Necrozma this summer.

Necrozma has two fusion forms, Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma. Both of these involve fusing with either of the legendary Pokémon duo Solgeao and Lunala.

This mechanic will release at the same time as Necrozma, starting with the in-person GO Fest events. It will then roll out globally during Pokémon GO Fest Global in July. Black and White Kyurem, who are also fusion Pokémon will release at a later date.

Initially to use fusion in Pokémon GO you'll need to be a ticket holder at any of the four GO Fest events. Then, this fusion ability will be very similar to Mega Evolution in Pokémon GO.

You will need a lot of resources to use fusion however. That means that these Pokémon are likely to be VERY powerful, to justify such a high cost. However, unlike Mega Evolution, this is not a temporary state. Fused Necrozma will remain in this form until their Trainer separates them. Separating will not cost any Fusion Energy or Pokémon Candy.

That means you could simply have three strong Necrozma, fuse two and never separate them.

Solar Fusion Energy and Lunar Fusion Energy are going to be a key resource to fuse Necrozma. Here is what the official blogpost says about gathering this resource:

"Trainers can obtain early access to either Solar Fusion Energy or Lunar Fusion Energy via branching Special Research at the in-person Pokémon GO Fest events in Sendai, Madrid, and New York City.

Starting with Pokémon GO Fest 2024: Global, Trainers will be able to earn Solar Fusion Energy or Lunar Fusion Energy by defeating Dusk Mane Necrozma or Dawn Wings Necrozma in Raid Battles or by completing ticketed research tasks."
