This is the case for writers within the Overwatch 2 fandom as they express their creativity with different pairings. So just what are the best Overwatch ships of 2025? Let's go over them!

As of now, there are 42,562 works about the Overwatch franchise on a website called Archive of Our Own (AO3). This is an online repository for fanfiction and other types of fanart. Fanfiction, in particular, refers to fictional works written by folks who love a series or franchise. These stories are also based on pre-existing works. Imagine an entire online library full of stories about your favorite Overwatch 2 characters!

There are currently 1,027 works about Overwatch 2's brilliant medic and geneticist. Based on their voice lines and in-game interactions, these two characters may clash in terms of their methodologies. However, who doesn't love an enemies-to-lovers or rivals-to-lovers vibe?

Taking the ninth spot is the love story between Genji and Mercy. Also known as "Gency," this ship of 1,046 stories involves a cyborg ninja who left the Shimada clan and a medic who is also a great scientist. These two characters used to send letters to each other. Mercy was also the one who treated Genji's injuries after he had a violent falling out with Hanzo. If Genji ever needs healing, then there's a pocket Mercy by his side!

Cole Cassidy is shipped with Reaper or Gabriel Reyes or both — it depends on the fanfic and it's a little bit complicated for those not acquainted with the lore. In total, this pairing has 1,262 works on AO3! Before he became Reaper, Gabriel worked with Cole in the Blackwatch division of Overwatch. Gabriel recruited Cole into Blackwatch after a sting operation since he was impressed by Cole's abilities as a sharpshooter.

Next, there's Genji and Zenyatta with 1,313 stories written about them! After Hanzo defeated Genji in the aforementioned falling out, the latter was rescued by Overwatch and had to adapt to his cybernetic form. When Overwatch fell, Genji had trouble finding a purpose. It was Zenyatta who helped him find inner peace.

Earning the sixth spot is the Overwatch 2 ship between Widowmaker and Tracer at 1,380 fanfics. Remember the original Overwatch trailer from about 10 whole years ago? Well, now you feel old. However, more importantly, Widowmaker and Tracer were in it, and this pairing is still considered one of the fandom's original ships!

This pairing boasts 1,425 works on AO3 and features Overwatch 2's handsome cowboy with the game's skilled ninja! Both Cole and Genji joined Blackwatch for different reasons, but they did work together to complete missions. They also share a voice line reminiscing about the good times they had in the past.

It's time for some Junkertown shenanigans with 1,566 stories! When Junkrat sought out a bodyguard to help him find some treasure, Roadhog answered the call. The original deal was giving Roadhog 10% of the treasure before it increased to 25%. Then, the deal jumped to 50%. Perhaps finding each other was the real treasure all along.

Also known by players as "Pharmercy" thanks to their history of in-game synergy, this pairing between Pharah and Mercy has 2,770 stories on AO3! Both of these characters were a part of Overwatch as well, taking to the skies as they both are able to fly. They now share voice lines that highlight this as well.

The Reaper76 pairing has 5,888 stories on AO3! Gabriel and Jack met amid the Omnic Crisis before they both joined Overwatch. A rift started to form between them as they differed in methods when it came down to missions. This led to their supposed deaths before they rose as Reaper and Soldier: 76.

Taking first place is Cole and Hanzo. Known as "YeeHan" and totally not "Hole," this ship features skilled marksmanship with a character who wishes to redeem himself. This pairing has 7,503 stories written about them on AO3.
