Overwatch League playoffs to feature live audience after years – venue announced

The Overwatch League playoffs will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center, California

Overwatch League 2022 Playoffs will take place at the Anaheim Center, California, Activision Blizzard announced today. It’s a homecoming of sorts for the Overwatch League and the venue is famous for the annual Blizzcon convention. 

The various Overwatch League tournaments this season are taking place all over the country from Dallas to Toronto. But the playoff matches will come back to California. The Overwatch League playoffs will take place over a period of five days from October 30 to November 4, 2022.

Will OWL playoffs have a live audience?

Yes!! This is massive news for Overwatch fans for whom the in-person experience and the ability to meet fellow fans is the biggest draw of the tournaments. Overwatch League has positioned itself as a community-focused tournament with home and away matches, although the League has had to pivot repeatedly to adjust to the pandemic’s effects. 

The 2022 OWL playoffs will feature a live audience at the Anaheim Convention Center. With a theater seating capacity of 7.500, OWL fans can expect to see their favorite players up close and personal. 

The OWL 2022 playoffs winners receive a million dollars in prize pool while the runner-up gets $500,000. There will be a total of 12 participating teams which include six teams from the West Regular season, three from the East regular season and the final three will come from the West Countdown Cup. At the time of writing, San Francisco Shock, Dallas Fuel and Los Angeles Gladiators are the top three in the West Season standings. Shanghai Dragons and Seoul Dynasty top the east. 

The Overwatch League fans are currently awaiting the start of the Countdown Cup which kicks off on the 15th of October. Dallas Fuel and Shanghai Dragons won the Summer Showdown in their respective regions. 

Meanwhile for casual Overwatch fans, Overwatch 2 will go live on October 4. It includes new heroes, maps and new game modes. Recently Blizzard also announced a new hero, Kirito whose abilities and design have received widespread acclaim.
