Overwatch 2 teases new weapon variant

According to Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller, players can look forward to a new weapon variant that's releasing this year. Keller described it as "out of this world," prompting some folks within the Overwatch 2 community to theorize that it's related to space.

"Out of this world? Galaxy/Cosmic weapon skins?" a user on Reddit wrote. Meanwhile, OWCavalry on X theorized a galaxy-themed weapon variant. The post used an image of Reaper's Nebula skin for emphasis.

"Some of you have been hoping for a weapon skin that has a higher end look to it, and we’ve got something for 2025 that is pretty spectacular," Keller stated. "So, while Jade [weapon variants] are going away for now, we’ve got an amazing new weapon variant to collect in 2025 that will be out of this world!"

Overwatch 2 Jade weapons update

The director's blog also acknowledged player feedback about Jade weapons being vaulted at the end of the current competitive season. Keller explained that weapons like these are meant to showcase a player's involvement in ranked queues each year. The blog stated that Jade weapons "are going away for now."
