Here’s the latest on Wuyang’s hero trial and his story in Overwatch 2.

Previously known under the codename "Aqua," Wuyang will be Overwatch 2's next support hero. He will also get a limited-time hero trial fairly soon. Ahead of this trial, Blizzard Entertainment revealed some new lore about him as well.

Overwatch 2 Wuyang trial release date

On July 22, Blizzard Entertainment announced that the Wuyang hero trial will kick off on Aug. 14 and run through Aug. 18. Based on our experience, this trial will very likely run until Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. PT since Overwatch 2 typically updates on Tuesdays at that time.

Players will get to test the waters in terms of Wuyang's graceful mobility, hybrid damage utility, fluid healing, and disruption.

"Expect a learning curve with some serious splash potential," Blizzard Entertainment added.

Overwatch 2 Wuyang lore

As noted, the announcement revealed some new lore about Wuyang. Before, we only knew him as a Chinese hero who wielded the power of water. We also knew about his unique weapon thanks to senior narrative designer Jude Stacey. Now, however, we know that he has a rebellious personality. He's also from Wuxing University's Water College.

This is a new post-secondary institution in terms of Overwatch 2 lore, but the franchise does already have Oasis University. That's where Moira once occupied herself as the minister of genetics. It's also where the Phreaks appeared during Hazard’s teasers and official hero trailer.

More information about Wuyang might be revealed during the ChinaJoy 2025 event, which will kick off on Aug. 1.
