Season 14’s Overwatch 2 6v6 playtest under the 2-2-2 format has been extended until the mid-season update!
Overwatch 2 Season 14 is well underway, and the new year arrives with some great news for those who enjoy six-versus-six (6v6) matches. That's right — the Overwatch 2 6v6 Role Queue game mode has been extended until the mid-season update! Here are the details.
Overwatch 2 6v6 game mode extended in 2025
Originally, Overwatch 2 players duked it out in teams of six under the 2-2-2 format from Dec. 17 to Jan. 6. However, just as the game mode was about to expire, Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller revealed that the playtest has been extended until the mid-season update due to continued player interest.
The game mode now exists in the Arcade area as opposed to the Unranked section within Overwatch 2. To access it, simply select "Play" from the main menu, choose "Arcade," and select the "6v6 Role Queue" option.

When does Overwatch 2 6v6 end?
This particular playtest ends after the mid-season update. After that, players will enter a 6v6 Open Queue playtest under the Min 1, Max 3 format.
"There are a few different combinations here that you will be able to try, but this opens up many different team compositions that we haven’t seen before in Overwatch 2," Keller explained back in October 2024. "You will be able to switch roles on the fly during a match as long as that switch doesn’t break the 'Min 1, Max 3' limit."
