The upcoming game mode features solo content.
The Overwatch 2 Hero Mastery mode will launch on Sept. 7 instead of Sept. 5. This mode was originally slated for Aug. 10 alongside the new Overwatch 2 Invasion content.
Overwatch 2 Hero Mastery mode release date
According to an official post on the Blizzard Forums, this mode will launch on Sept. 7 instead of Sept. 5. This midseason patch will also include hero balance updates.
"We’re getting ready for our next game update, which will include hero balance changes along with the new Hero Mastery mode," the post stated. "Things are taking a bit longer than expected as we make sure the new update is ready to go, so we will be releasing the midseason update on Thursday, September 7. We look forward to seeing all of you try out the new Hero Mastery mode then."

What is Overwatch 2 Hero Mastery mode?
This mode in Overwatch 2 will let players hone their skills with select characters and challenges. It will be solo content for those who wish to practice with different characters. During a livestream, Overwatch 2 senior game producer Kim Horn confirmed five heroes for this mode.
The confirmed Overwatch 2 Hero Mastery heroes include:
- Mercy
- Reinhardt
- Sojourn
- Tracer
- Winston
"There will be different heroes you can play,” Horn added. “Some will unlock differently. And they'll be scores, so you can compare your scores.”
As players wait for the new mode to launch, they can jump into other Overwatch 2 Invasion content. The three PvE Story Missions, for example, feature heroes uniting and fighting against Null Sector's forces.
