In addition to new player icons and name cards that celebrate diverse identities, Overwatch 2 came out with a brand-new short story. The Overwatch 2 Pride Month festivities also revealed that Pharah is a lesbian and Baptiste is bisexual. Read on for details!
Is Pharmercy canon in Overwatch 2?
The "As You Are" short story confirmed that Pharah is an LGBTQ+ character. When Baptiste asked about her and Cole Cassidy's relationship, Pharah proudly told Baptiste that she's actually a lesbian.
“No, definitely not. Cole and I have known each other for a long time. He’s like a brother to me. And besides, I’m a lesbian,” Pharah said.
Pharah also hinted at having feelings for Mercy. When Pharah talked about Mercy, she referred to the latter's real name in a wistful manner.
The text for that passage read, "There was something about the way she said her name — not Dr. Ziegler, but Angela — that touched him."

Overwatch 2 confirms Baptiste as a bisexual character
While Pharah confirmed her sexuality, Baptiste did not outright state his own in the short story. However, when Pharah asked for Baptiste's thoughts about Cole, there was a moment of understanding between the two characters. The text read, "Baptiste met her gaze. There was a moment of recognition, and he chuckled."
- Pharah: "Oh, you were asking about Cole?"
- Baptiste: "Well, I must admit he has a certain charm. I like a person who's sure of themself."
Blizzard also confirmed Baptiste's bisexuality in a blog post about Pride Month.
"You’ll find a lesbian card for Tracer, a gay card for Soldier: 76, a pansexual card for Lifeweaver, as well as a bisexual card for Baptiste and a lesbian card for Pharah," Blizzard stated.
Overwatch 2 celebrates Pride Month with short story
The "As You Are" short story is a heartwarming one that's about comradery and acceptance. While Baptiste struggled to reconcile his past with Talon, he was also thankful to Cole. Cole offered Baptiste a place in Overwatch — a callback to how Gabriel Reyes, later known as Reaper, once took a chance on Cole.
"You know, somebody gave me a chance once. When no one thought there was any good in me," Cole told Baptiste in a comic.
With Pharah and Baptiste as confirmed LGBTQ+ characters, they officially join Tracer, Soldier: 76, and Lifeweaver as queer heroes in Overwatch 2.
