Overwatch 2 Competitive Drives explained

In Overwatch 2, a Competitive Drive is an event that happens in its ranked mode. The first Competitive Drive starts near the end of a season and takes place over a weekend. During this period, you can earn rewards by completing matches in the Overwatch 2 Competitive Play Role Queue.

How to unlock Competitive Signatures in Overwatch 2

According to Overwatch 2 systems designer Gavin Winter, you can earn a Drive Score and progress toward a checkpoint when you win a match. Each checkpoint features a reward, with Competitive Points and Competitive Signatures being a couple of examples. These items give your BattleTag a frame.

Avoid a Teammate, rank reset, wave respawn, and Flashpoint updates

In terms of other Overwatch 2 announcements from the Aug. 16 director's take blog, Winter went over the Avoid a Teammate feature, the Season 12 rank reset, the wave respawn feature, plus Flashpoint changes. We've summarized the key points here.

  • Avoid a Teammate has 15 slots, with 3 pinned slots and the 12 recent slots timing out after 7 days
  • Season 12 gets a soft rank reset
  • Wave Respawn replaces Group Respawn
  • Flashpoint gets a speed boost to all spawn exits

"So those things were great, but the biggest problem with Group Respawn was how dying first often led to getting 'buried' by a long sequence of teammates dying in a row, making your respawn time a lot longer," Winter explained. "This meant their respawn times were generally shorter, but it also meant yours was longer. Wave Respawn fixes that by ensuring your respawn time will always be shorter than the default if another hero was already dead."
