Here is the full Overwatch gameplay trailer for Hero 51. In it, we can see the new DPS hero wielding the Helix Rifle as her primary weapon. Meanwhile, her Anchor Drone, Dorothy, can be launched into the air and tether Sierra for some height advantage.
Who is Sierra in Overwatch?
In Overwatch, Sierra is the head of security at Watchpoint: Grand Mesa. According to the Hero 51 trailer, she’s in the fight against Talon. A recent lore reveal also indicates that Sierra is pursuing Freja and Emre after the duo left Watchpoint: Grand Mesa with a case containing a mysterious item. Freja and Emre currently work for Vendetta’s Talon.
Overwatch Sierra lore and story explained
According to Overwatch lore expert Shroomiiee, Emre raided the Naughton Vault to get that item. This vault was perhaps named after Victoria Naughton as well. That’s the scientist behind the Soldier Enhancement Program (SEP), also known as Project Naughton, that enhanced Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes during the Omnic Crisis.
Jack Morrison is now known as Soldier: 76 while Gabriel Reyes is now Reaper. Reaper recently left Talon after Vendetta took over it.

Based on recent lore reveals and an interview with esports.gg, the Overwatch developers appear to be continuing their mission of building new heroes that connect to existing storylines. Characters like Vendetta, Anran, and Mizuki, for example, not only fit into the Overwatch universe, but also help move the overall narrative forward. Therefore, it may be inferred that Sierra follows a similar pattern.
The interview snippet below is about Vendetta. Overwatch game director Aaron Keller told esports.gg that he’s interested in connecting new heroes to the Overwatch world and its existing lore.
- Esports.gg: “One of my favorite memories of Overwatch is playing the Retribution mission with my friends. That was back in 2018. So it’s really cool to see Vendetta’s lore and motivation really tie into that history. With this context, are there plans to bring anything related to Retribution in-game — given that newer players might not be familiar with Blackwatch and Talon?”
- Aaron Keller: “We don’t have a plan to go back to Retribution or have something like that in the game anytime soon. But I love the callback to that mission, too, because there is that connection to Vendetta. And that’s one of the things that I’m personally most excited about for this hero — is how connected to the rest of the world she is and the lore. Because it’s not just her father, it was the Blackwatch heroes that were on that mission. It’s now the rest of Talon that she’s connected with. So I think it was really fun to develop a hero that was that connected. And Jude obviously did a lot of work there. And when I look to the future, I think that this is probably something that we’d like to be doing more of — is as we introduce new heroes to the game — to have them connected to either the world and the existing lore we have or using them to push it forward in new directions.”
