The new Overwatch 2 Freja comic features the bounty hunter searching for Emre. The hunt revealed Emre’s new look and what he’s been up to with Talon
Overwatch 2 just released a new video featuring Freja's "Search & Destroy" comic, which gave players a closer look at Emre Sarioglu. Olivia Le Andersen, the voice actor for Freja, read the comic as well.
Is Emre joining Overwatch 2 as a new hero?
In an interview with esports.gg, Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller shared his thoughts on the future of the game's storytelling. He said that the team hopes to continue tying new heroes into existing lore and using them to move the story forward. Emre's ties to Freja and his interactions with Reaper, Mauga, and Widowmaker of Talon in the "Search & Destroy" comic could point in that direction. Below is our recap of the comic.

New Overwatch 2 Freja comic features Emre
In the comic, Freja discovered that years after Emre left Overwatch, he began working for Talon. Talon eventually lost track of him, and Maximilien hired Freja to track him down. Her search led her to Moira, and they reflected on how nearly a decade had passed since Emre left Overwatch. It was revealed that Emre disagreed with the strike team's loose protocols and even advised Freja to befriend Sojourn.

Moira pointed out the irony of them working for Talon now. She also described Emre as cold, calculating, and ruthless. When Moira urged Freja to search for clues buried deep within her own memories, Freja remembered how she looked up to Emre and how friendly he was with the entire support staff. Freja and Emre even dined together with the latter's family.

The "Search & Destroy" comic then showed how Freja turned her focus to the jobs that Emre had taken for Talon. She discovered Moira's mission in Burkhala, which, while officially for her genetic research, served other secret purposes. Freja also met Mauga, who helped Emre infiltrate a site in Guatemala. Freja questioned Widowmaker, too. Emre seemed to always disappear during Talon missions for brief periods before reappearing.

Reaper was Freja's final stop. He revealed that whoever had been on the mission in Luanda with him did not seem like the Emre he once knew.
"Emre had become a cold-hearted killer," Freja noted. "No remorse, no emotion... not even a clear pattern of motivation. It made no sense. What had happened to him? What was I missing?"

Then, Freja recognized a now-Helix site in Kinshasa and connected Emre's Talon missions to satellite command centers that monitored global security and supported Overwatch's debriefs. She noted that while the strike team ignored support staff, Emre prioritized them, and the information stored at these locations did not match Talon's goals.
She also realized that every command center fell within range of Emre's Talon jobs except one. Security logs then revealed repeated minor breaches at that location, suggesting reconnaissance for a strike. Wanting to prove her theory, Freja flew to Riyadh.

Upon her arrival, people there described Emre as a demon. And after the battle, Emre emerged from the smoke. However, what Freja saw wasn't a monster. It was simply Emre.

"The hunt continues in Overwatch 2," Freja said.
Will Emre eventually join the Overwatch 2 roster as a playable hero? Only time will tell. Until then, stick around on esports.gg for the latest Overwatch 2 news, interviews, and updates.
