Love it or hate it, the Overwatch GOATS meta is coming back in Season 15

The recent Overwatch 2 Spotlight event dropped a lot of content to be excited about, including the arrival of Perks in Season 15, loot boxes galore, and even a playtest for upcoming hero Freja. Another interesting announcement that Blizzard made pertained to the arrival of Overwatch Classic GOATS.

In Overwatch 2, Overwatch Classic refers to a six-versus-six (6v6) game mode that has seen playtests in 2024 and early 2025. Therefore, think of Overwatch Classic GOATS as another twist on the Overwatch Classic game mode.

In the original Overwatch game, the GOATS meta referred to a team composition that had three tanks and three supports. This meta was named after the competitive team that made it famous. The team likely chose that name because it's an acronym for "Greatest of All Time." It's also possible that GOATS stood for "GO All Tanks Support."

The Overwatch GOATS team composition included tank heroes Reinhardt, Zarya, and D.va alongside support heroes Lucio, Brigitte, and either Zenyatta or Moira. Of course, there were some variations here and there.

If you'd like to relive the Overwatch GOATS meta, then it's arriving sometime in Overwatch 2 Season 15. According to Blizzard, it's slated for the mid-season update. Blizzard also described the GOATS meta as "one of the most notorious and memorable periods from Overwatch's history."

Kenny Hudson, Overwatch 2's senior game producer, also said that the Overwatch Classic GOATS meta is a "head-to-head battle testing which team can be the most thoughtful and strategic in setting up the best combination of plays, the best use of dual heals, and, of course, dual ults."
