Loot boxes are so back! Overwatch 2 loot boxes return as Battle Pass items and more

The Overwatch 2 Spotlight event just ended, and it featured lots of exciting content for Season 15. One of the major announcements pertained to the return of loot boxes to the franchise! Here's the scoop on the Overwatch 2 loot boxes, their release date, how to unlock them, and their drop rates.

According to Blizzard, Overwatch 2 Season 15 will feature the return of loot boxes. That's right — for those of you who remember the original Overwatch, we used to have these boxes to open, and they would reward us with cosmetic items. In Season 15, you'll be able to collect loot boxes again!

These loot boxes will be obtainable through both weekly and event rewards. There will also be a special legendary loot box in the free Season 15 Battle Pass. If you're like us and enjoy collecting cool cosmetics, then you'll want to consider getting the paid version of the Season 15 Battle Pass as well. This is because this variation will grant you two extra legendary loot boxes!

There will be normal loot boxes and legendary ones. For the normal version, legendary items will drop at a rate of 5.10%. Meanwhile, legendary loot boxes will 100% guarantee a legendary. Below is the table detailing all of the different drop rates.

That's not all, however. In addition to the drop rates outlined above, Blizzard stated that they'll guarantee a rare or better item in every loot box. You'll also get an epic within five consecutive boxes and a legendary within 20 of them.
