“The new hero will play quite a role in that story as well.”
Overwatch 2 Season 19 is now live! Ahead of its launch, esports.gg sat down with associate game director Alec Dawson for an interview. Dawson also told esports.gg that the new hero, currently known as Overwatch 2's Hero 25, plays a key role in the upcoming, in-game timeline feature.

Hero 45 in Overwatch 2's expanding story
In an official video, narrative lead Miranda Moyer said that this feature will showcase short stories, motion comics, video vignettes, and other narrative pieces. In the interview with esports.gg, Dawson expanded on this, stating that the narrative viewer will be leaned into quite a bit in the near future. He also told esports.gg that the new hero will play quite a role in that story.
"The narrative viewer is coming in Season 19, and it's kind of comprised of what's to come within Overwatch's story," Dawson said. "This is something we've talked about it quite a bit. We're going to be leaning into that quite a bit in the near future. We can't talk about all the details yet, but the new hero will play quite a role in that story as well."
He continued, "So we're really excited to see pretty soon players' reaction to that and all the plans that we have for the near future."

What to expect in Overwatch 2 narrative viewer
According to Moyer, the narrative viewer will order Overwatch content by season, giving players an organized look of the story as it continues to unfold. Players will also be able to see timelines for upcoming content releases.
"The content will be outlined by season, giving you an organized look at the story of Overwatch as it develops over time. Plus, you'll be able to see some of the timelines of when upcoming content is slated to release," Moyer said.
Overwatch 2 narrative viewer release date
Players will get this new way to experience Overwatch's story and lore in the Season 19 midcycle.
"I'm here to tell you about something in [the] mid-season that's been a long time coming -- a brand-new feature that's going to make Overwatch 2 even more immersive for all of you story and lore lovers out there. Later in Season 19, you'll be able to access Overwatch story and lore in-game," Moyer confirmed, adding that the team has been making some big moves with Overwatch 2's story lately. As those moves continue, the team would like players to have a hub to easily access new content.

For now, however, players can learn about some hero lore, faction information, and cutscenes via the Story Missions within Overwatch 2 itself. Outside of the game, they can also check out the plethora of YouTube videos, comics, and short stories.
