Overwatch Credits let players unlock skins from the first iteration of the game and past events. They used to be called Legacy Credits. Here's a guide on how to earn some free Overwatch Credits in the game.
How to get Overwatch Credits for free
Players can earn Overwatch Credits for free through the basic Overwatch 2 Battle Pass. Progressing through this Battle Pass means dedicating some time into playing the game and gaining Battle Pass XP. Complete challenges to level up the track for some free in-game currency. This currency is spread throughout Battle Pass as well, so it's a good idea to save up if you're aiming for a specific item.
Overwatch 2: How to level up your Battle Pass fast
Here's how to level up the Overwatch 2 Battle Pass for some free Overwatch Credits:
- Complete daily challenges
- Do weekly challenges
- Complete seasonal challenges
- Participate in event challenges
- Finish lifetime challenges
- Play regular matches
- Play during double XP events
It should be noted that most of these Overwatch 2 challenges cannot be completed in custom games or practice matches against bots.
To check your daily challenges, simply click on the "Challenges" option in the main menu. You can also see how far you are in your Battle Pass progression by pressing the "Battle Pass" option via the main menu location.

Overwatch Credits cost
To obtain extra Overwatch Credits, you can upgrade to the premium tier of the seasonal Battle Pass. The premium pass costs 1,000 Overwatch Coins, which is the same as $9.99 USD.
These Coins can be bought in the game or through the Battle.net shop. They can also be earned for free through Microsoft Rewards or weekly challenges. Take note that Overwatch Coins are not the same as Overwatch Credits.
"We are also adding more uses for your Credits so you can choose from many potential rewards," Blizzard noted in a blog. This means players can look forward to more ways to use Overwatch Credits in the future. An example of this would be the Halloween Terror event shop.
As for other skin that can be bought in the game, Blizzard made some of them available in the hero gallery for either Credits or Coins.
Skins include ones from seasonal event modes, which means you can get the Witch Mercy, Surf 'N' Splash Torbjörn, or Snowman Wrecking Ball skins at any time of the year. As for the standard price of these legendary skins, they can range from 1,000 to 1,500 Coins or Credits each.
Can I still get Legacy Credits in Overwatch 2?
Legacy Credits are the same as Overwatch 2 Credits now. If you've played the original game, then you can check if you have some of this currency left over. Press the "Hero" option in the main menu and select your favorite character. Click on the different in-game item options and browse through them.
The cost of skins that require Overwatch Credits are displayed in a light gray color as opposed to the golden color of Overwatch Coins. You can also see how much Credits you have by pressing the "i" icon that's next to your Overwatch Coins balance. This is located near the top right of your screen.
