Modern Warfare 2 Spec Ops three missions: Low Profile, Denied Area, Defender

Here is everything you need to know about MW2’s 2022 spec ops mode.

On top of the campaign and multiplayer, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will launch with a third mode called Spec Ops. This is a co-op mode that's been in previous Modern Warfare games, including three missions at launch.

What is Modern Warfare 2 Spec Ops

Infinity Ward has described Spec Ops as an "evolution" of the original Modern Warfare in 2019. It's a co-op experience that will start with three missions when the game launches. All three missions will take place in Al Mazrah.

  • Low Profile: In the middle of the night, infiltrate a town to gather evidence left behind by Al Qatala, using stealth to get away.
  • Denied Area: Drive a vehicle through the suburbs to quickly destroy SAM towers that are preventing reinforcements from entering Al Mazrah. Then race to the getaway plane for a fast escape.
  • Defender: Mt Zaya: Defend the observatory against waves of enemies that are attempting to detonate bombs. Between each increasingly difficult wave, operators can buy helpful items like self-revive kits and armor.

How to play Spec Ops in MW2

Throughout each mission, operators will have access to a backpack that allows them to store equipment and one of three kits, similar to what's available in multiplayer. Here are three kits:

  • Assault: This kit is focused on increasing your armor. It has an Armor Box Field Upgrade and provides Assault Suit munition at later levels, along with increased armor capacity and free Stims.
  • Medic: This kit gives players quicker revives with a Revive Pistol Field Upgrade, which allows for ranged instant revives. Later on, players will get access to a Bomb Drone, Claymores, and anti-tank mines.
  • Recon: This is all about gathering intel with the Snapshot Pulse Field Upgrade, allowing you to see nearby enemies. At later levels, this kit includes the ability to automatically restock Lethals and Tacticals over time, allows you to carry extra equipment, and provides you with a free Hearbeat Sensor and Spotter Scope.

Players level up in Spec Ops by earning stars in each mission. There are challenges to complete within each mission, which means you can replay them for extra stars. Try to complete each mission with three stars.

"We highly recommend completing all three Special Ops missions with three stars and have at least one Kit leveled up to Tier 5 before Raids, a direct continuation of the Campaign, are introduced to Special Ops later in Season 01," developers explained.
