The fight for the qualifying spots intensified, while some top players could already relax and treat us to a wonderful Mortal Kombat.

The official competitive circle of Mortal Kombat 1, Pro Kompetition 2023-2024, consisted of many online events. It was a rare chance to see the best MK1 players gathering together for offline matches. The tournament at Combo Breaker 2024 was one more (and the last) opportunity — before the standings are finalized, and the top competitors gets their spots in Final Kombat 2024. This makes MK1 matches at Combo Breaker 2024 very special!

Combo Breaker 2024 Mortal Kombat 1 results

As MK1 Combo Breaker 2024 is over, let’s take a look at the results: top players and the characters/kameos they used in the top 8.

Top 8 recap

Ninjakilla started the top 8 part with a confident victory over Bandinoz. Switching from Rain to the Cage family did not help Bandinoz, and the player fell to losers.

In the parallel brackets, Nicolas had the same impressive win vs TheMightyUnjust. Interestingly enough, it was the winner here who played Johnny Cage — but with Khameleon as a kameo fighter. TheMightyUnjust started with the Peacemaker/Kano (like Ninjakilla), and only in the final game did he try to take a different kameo, Khameleon.

It’s always interesting to witness the newest characters being played at top-level fighting esports tournaments. KillerXinok gave us this opportunity, as the player took the newest kameo, Mavado, to the match vs VideoGamezYo. It did not help, though. KillerXinok was eliminated.

SonicFox entered the MK1 top 8 at Combo Breaker 2024 through the losers brackets — in the top 24 (winners quarter-final), they lost a very close match vs TheMightyUnjust. In the final part, things went generally better for SonicFox. They defeated three opponents on the way to the losers final with 3:1 (including TheMightyUnjust). In the match vs Bandinoz, SonicFox even switched to Ermac, another new addition to the MK1 roster. Was it a counterpick against Rain? And they also used Mavado as a kameo in the losers semi-final against Peacemaker/Kano of TheMightyUnjust — and then the opponent mirrored the newest kameo fighter.

Finals

The losers final was tough and close. Ninjakilla fell to losers after the winners final vs Nicolas. He was in a pretty good position after the first two games, reaching the match-point situation. But then, Nicolas won three games in a row. In the match vs SonicFox, Ninjakilla_212 also was close to finishing and also couldn’t do that — after SonicFox switched to Sindel/Sub-Zero.

Grand Final

In the MK1 grand final at Combo Breaker 2024, Nicolas played his main character/kameo pair, Johnny Cage/Khameleon. SonicFox started and finished with Sindel/Kung Lao,  having Nitara/Khameleon for a couple of games. Such moves helped a bit, but Nicolas did not allow SonicFox to gain too big of an advantage. The fight reached the decisive round. Nicolas found nice openings and nicely blocked Sindel’s Fatal Blow — to punish and win.Nicolas is the Mortal Kombat 1 Champion at Combo Breaker 2024. Congratulations!

Top players to watch out for

Regardless of Pro Kompetition, we can expect top-level competition from all the participants. It’s MK1 esports, so everyone does their best at any tournament. Let’s highlight a few Mortal Kombat players to watch out for at Combo Breaker 2024!

  • SonicFox — their position is strong in the global league. And what a Final Kombat would it be without SonicFox? Still, seeing this legend playing their favorite game is such a treatment for Mortal Kombat fans.
  • Rewind is a very strong competitor with lots of high placements. He plays mainly Reiko in MK1, even if it’s not the top-most character in the game meta.
  • Grr always delivers with his Geras! He is an exceptionally dedicated player, and everyone can find something to learn from his style.
  • KingGambler couldn’t qualify through the NA West Regional Final, and he needs to strengthen his position in the Pro Kompetition standings. The gap to the next not-qualified competitors is still big: 80 points.
  • Xombat is a threat to KingGambler. The guy should play flawlessly and hope for the best to compensate for those 80 points. His run should be interesting to follow.
  • A F0xy Grampa is a remarkable Mortal Kombat player from the UK. He is well known for his disrespectful robberies, when an opponent thinks they have already won. Don’t miss his matches!

Final Kombat 2024 happens on June 14-16, 2024, in Toronto, Canada. Stay tuned to esports.gg for exclusive content from this huge MK1 event!
