Here are all of the Mortal Kombat 1 cutscenes. The cinematics began with Shang Tsung deceiving others in order to make a living. However, he angered a village because his cures were ineffective. Later, Shang Tsung removed his disguise as an old man. A stranger then approached him to commend his abilities and offer him more power as a sorcerer.

The Mortal Kombat 1 story involves Liu Kang becoming a Keeper of Time after fighting in the battle for Kronika's Hourglass. When Kronika's Hourglass ripped apart the fabric of time, it led to a restart in history. However, when Shang Tsung and Quan Chi threatened Liu Kang's new era of peace, his goal became saving Earthrealm and reality itself.

This meant recruiting allies and the formation of unlikely alliances. The new reality also explained why characters such as Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Smoke were together in Mortal Kombat 1.

In one of the possible cutscenes, Liu Kang and Kitana reiterated the situation of becoming a Keeper of Time. The cutscene also detailed the creation of many timelines as opposed to only one of them.

"Where there was once one timeline, there are now many," Liu Kang said. "Each new timeline represents a different possible outcome of that battle. In mine, I became time's keeper. In yours, it was you. In others, it could be Jade, Sindel, even Kano. The possibilities are endless."
